My hometown Bergen, Norway

Latitude 60o 23’ 42, 8’’N
Longitude 5o 19’ 19, 26’’E

I became inspired by khun Takovers walk around in Berlin to make a little picture trip through my home town
Bergen is the kingdom's second largest city, with over 225 000 inhabitants and situated on the west coast of Norway. The year of the foundation is estimated to be 1070.
I was born and raised in the centre of Bergen.

Most of the images here are a few years old but the place have not changed dramatically. I must also admit that I have not taken all these images, some I snatched from the Net.

I have indicated 3 of the seven mountains that surround the city namely, mount Fløyen, mount Ulriken and mount Løvstakken . Then you know where the pics are taken from.

These next shots are taken from Mount Ulriken and reveal the center of Bergen.

(Snatched)

The cable cars run up and down the 643 meter high mountain. This is the tallest of our mountains. (Snatched)

My wife Yuwathida at the same mountain.

The Funicular takes you from the city center to the top of the Mount Fløyen at 320 meters above sea level. (Snatched)

Outside our flat in Åsane.

Ohhh, my fingers.

I love the winter.

But sometime I miss Thailand.

Fun with icicle.

The first attempt of skiing.

It just had to end this way.

Finally, this one I shot yesterday, 22.11.08. Not real winter yet, there are no ice on the lake.

Thanks for the great pictures. With all that water around I can see why Norwegians are such great sailors, but I suppose you have had plenty of practice.

Nice pics - thanks for sharing them.

I always wonder how Thai wives cope with living in the west. I don't think I'd take mine home to live as it would bore the pair of us shitless. Plus, she'd be too far from her family and I'd be too close to mine!

Thanks for the Pictures panthip.

Bergen was a pretty special place for me in a previous life.

If my money went as far in Norway as it does in Thailand I'd struggle wether to chose Norway or Thailand. I couldn't cope with the Beer prices though. I once drove into a british Army base near Voss in a new landrover with british plates and drove out with a boot full of bottled beer. No resistance, a few quizzing looks and I did promise to take the bottles back ;-)

The place was full of kids, Greenjackets I think, they didn't know how to deal with me, they probably thought I was an officer or something ;-)

Sometimes I miss Thailand.

Thanks for your comments.

My wife really likes it in Norway. She also likes the snow but could do without the cold. Today we have -
6 degree Celsius here. (21,2F)
By the way, here's a good one for you:
Convert Temperature - Unit Converter

There are quite a few thaigirls in Bergen now and they are very happy to work here since they can make a good earning within the cleaning business.
The going rate are approximately 650 thb an hour, with today's week NOK. Two months ago the work was worth 780 thb. So we really hope the NOK will gain power again.

Then for the price of beer in Norway.

This one is appr. NOK 25 in the shops (125 thb)

And this one:

is appr. NOK 80,- (400 thb) in the restaurants.

The Beer prices seem to be getting cheaper then. I think it was more expensive 12 years ago. Thats seems good money for a cleaning Job. Do you think you could get me a Job cleaning ? ;-)

Yes, he is still in prison.

Varg Vikernes also known as Count Grishnáckh was sentenced to 21 years imprison for the murder of Øystein Aaseth and the burning of four churches in 1993. He has now served 15 year of this penalty and is allowed to apply for conditional release.

However the official in charge refuse to let him go, they think that he still can be a threat to the society.
The reason for refusing is that he escaped prison in 2003 and his Nazi sympathies.

Many thanks for the thread. Brought back some nice memories of Bergen from the 90's.
Prefer to see the snow on photos rather than the real thing

Let him stay there, he is just a clueless attentionseeker who was born into a fucked up family.

Nice pics beautiful wife. Congratulations.

I envy you for the snow. We have that maybe every 6 years. A dark cold winter is no fun.

The thread earns you some reputation.
