Switzerland

As you all know, i live in one of the most beautiful countries of the world.

This documentary shall show you why i love my country so much. The beauty etc. Dogs, mountains and right at the end is my my home town for the past 40ish years.



Enjoy. I learnt some stuff!! The only thing that pissed me off was he didn't show the Freddie statue.

I would take some photos myself - but my drone fell out of the sky!! Or was shot down by the Swiss navy. joke.

Used to spend holidays on the Bodensee opposite Konstanz, while the food and scenery lovely found the people, cannot quite put a handle out, clockwork?I speak good French and Austrain dialekt so had no probs communicating but it was a dull place cpmpared to here and while snow looks good from an apres ski lounge actually driving , schlepping about in it , dark cold nights etc

Prefer Austria Bavaria France or Italy, If it's not an Ogresome poser what made you choose the Swiss was it a Patsy horn matter? Was he Farny reVoltairing?

I hear Iceland and New Zealand compare very well to Switzerland for overall QoL.

Switzerland is very pretty but it is full of Swiss people.

NZ for sure only been Iceland once , amazing wierd lanscape but grim winters at least Swiss and Kiwis have vineyards and places to swim in winter, the blue Lagoon hotspring at Keflavik is a hoot if you like bathing with thousands of other geysers

Spent time in Zurich, Geneva quite a bit. The mid-night express from there to Ostend.
Climbed , walked the San Theodore Pass into Italy. An old escape route during WW2.
Goes around the Matterhorn. WW2 to escape; went from Italy.
Love Switzerland.
Could walk into a shop with 1000 sw fr (at the time £400 ) buy some fag papers, collect your change and go.
In England i'd walk into a pub order a pint, produce a £50 note and told
'sorry we don't take £50 notes.

I came here when i was 9. My dad got a job at WHO.

I agree the Swiss can be a bit cold and condescending. But the ones i know are not 100% Swiss they are all a mix of all different nationalities. And we have a laugh, speak numerous languages etc.

Also at the end of the documentary he showed a mountain and said it was the Mont Blanc, that "hill" is called the Mole and sort of blots our view of Mont Blanc, I can just see the top of Mont Blanc from my flat on a clear day.

It was just to show you guys where i live, ok it was a bit touristy and life in a city is mundane wherever you lay your hat!!

I thought Katie would like it, as she seems open to travel and seeing new places.

Oh, and when you eat the fondue. Most of us dip our bread into the kirsch before we dip it into the cheese.

Always love a good Europe thread. Looking forward to my next visit to Europe in April- interailing around Eastern Europe-something I did in my early 20s. Keen to do it again

@patsy - I haven't seen the vid, can't see it from this phone I'm using. I'm sure it's lovely, though. Will check it out later when I'm on laptop. As I've said previously, my budget won't reach Europe for travels yet (it could, but it would make me bankrupt, and I don't want that). I have some friends scattered around Europe who I can couch-surf with, but the logistics of getting to Euroland.. hmmm... plus visa issues. I have a 10-yr US visa and stamps from other travels, so I'm fairly confident that I'll be granted a Schengen visa. But the paperwork that goes with the visa process - que horror! Many logistics issues for a 3rd world national to be able to visit a 1st world country. Such is the reality...sigh.

@pregomeister - hope you chronicle your travels & post your pics here. I still have lots of pics from my Myanmar trip, but I'm being a lazy-ass today, plus I have internet issues.

It looks a great spot for a train tour. Im sure the video does not do the Alps justice. It would be a cool adventure in more ways than one plus I haven't had fondue in years. Still sadly no time for touring at this point. Thanks for the insight it looks like a nice place to live. Clean air and water may be all a place needs, and of course a warm fire.
