UK To Expand £600 24-Hour Visa Service To Thailand, Philippines & 5 Other Countries

    Bangkok Post / Bloomberg News
    November 13, 2014

The United Kingdom will expand its fast-track 24-hour visa service to include Thailand, the Philippines, and five other countries, Prime Minister David Cameron announced.

The expansion of the service, which is already available in China and India, will help to boost investment and tourism to Britain, Mr Cameron said in a statement as he travelled to Australia for the Group of 20 summit in Brisbane.

"We are determined to do everything we can to back business, support investment and create jobs," Mr Cameron said. "This new 24-hour service is another way we can help - it will persuade more business travellers, investors and tourists to visit Britain, to trade with Britain and to expand in Britain."

The program - which will also include New York, Paris, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and South Africa - will give people an answer on their visa application in 24 hours on payment of a 600 pound sterling (31,000 baht) fee, Mr Cameron's office said.

Companies have warned the government that lengthy bureaucracy around visa applications is deterring investors, business travellers and wealthy tourists. About 40% of visa applications in New York already use the priority visa service, which turns applications around in three to five days, indicating there will be demand for the new service, Mr Cameron's office said.

Britain to offer fast-track visa service in Thailand, 6 more countries | Bangkok Post: news

Seems a bit pricey, but if you're in a hurry and can afford it, I guess it's a good thing.

So in corrupt 3rd world country it takes 4 weeks to get a visa , unless you pass a few crisp notes over in a brown envelope, while in UK....

Fuck that - have you met many of 'em?! Get the illiterate fat fuckers out, and let 'em stay with their tattooed trollops propping up tuppeny bars in sweaty, grimy, Siamese backwaters.

How they can justify that fee for an application which by definition would be limited to those assured of entry is beyond comprehension.

The British are becoming such ghastly money grubbers. Still, if folk are daft enough to pay this ransom then so be it. Personally, unless it was business and therefore a trading cost, I'd fuck off to Europe. Once there, you can poodle around to your heart's content and enjoy a much greater cultural experience.

This "news" is all over the Philippine press in "see how important we are" stories.

Not one article has mentioned the price tag.

No use to you Jack. You would need to be able to read and write just to fill the forms in.
Then you would have ask her for the money. I can imagine how that would go down.

Probably because people pay scamming scum of the earth visa agents a lot more than £600 so the £600 fee sounds cheap if people are going to do it themselves. Personally though I think the British government have a fukin cheek and it's a rip off charging that for a visa.

^ Business class flights cost 3-4 times cattle class, and companies willingly pay it for their executives. The pricing of this is based along those lines. If the trip isn't urgent then there is no need to use it.

There is no point comparing the price of Thais visa services and UK visa services, or somtam in Thailand or somtam in the UK. Different prices, different costs, different circumstances, different expectations.
