Just out of curiosity, I took a look at flights last night. SA Airways has a flight for around $235 US, so that's pretty reasonable. I also noticed that it's over 2 hours to fly, so since our time is pretty short, we'll take that option.Originally Posted by FlyFree

We'll both have our international DL's so that will be a good option. It's nice to have a car and the freedom to come and go as you please.Originally Posted by FlyFree
No idea if you're interested, but if you consider Kruger you can also look at the option of flying down to Nelspruit and rent a car there. Or, I think, there's a small plane going directly from Jhb into Skukuza, Kruger's main camp.

Cape Town there's so many options for really great day drives that you have to get a car. Don't miss Stellenbosch. If interested in such things, the Kirstenbosch Sunset Concerts should be good as well.
I wouldn't stay in a hotel. I'd rent a flat, there's plenty at good prices if you don't look at overpriced tourist oriented sites.

Thanks FlyFree!! You rock!!
Just talking to my dad, Natalie. He was in Cape Town in December with his adrenaline junkie sister, who loved that Kruger national park. You can even go down in a cage with Great Whites, take a helicopter ride, go blue marlin fishing, climb and abseil table mountain, there's a cable car that goes up there too. Everything's dirt cheap there, now its 18 rand to the pound, it was 2 back in his day, the old coot. He reccomends castle and lion beers and if you want a real adrenalin rush to stall your car in a township.
Have fun Nat
As for getting from Jo'berg to Cape Town, he says take their equivalent of the Orient Express, the Blue Train
My friends who are moving there climbed Table Mountain with their two boys last year and they loved it! As for the value of the rand to the GBP, yes, that's one of the main reasons why they're going to SA. He is paid in GBP, so ka-ching for them.
I'll take a look at The Blue train too.
