James Bond, whose the best ?

    I've been stuck in the house for the last two weeks and consequently obliged to watch the James Bond season on UBC. I'd forgotten how many there were. So now I reckon I know who is the best and worst James Bond;

    My thoughts;

    1. Timothy Dalton - He was excellent in "The Living Daylights" real nasty. I think he carried the role better than anyone else. Probably helped by the presence of Miriam D'abo who is far and away the best bond girl.

    2. Sean Connery - The actor most people associate with James Bond. Definately had presence, but now his movies are looking dated.

    3. Pierce Brosnan - A bit of a lightweight and was accompanied by a return to the gadgets.

    4. George Lazenby - Not bad but the only movie he was in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" was a clunker.

    5. Roger Moore - Never believable as James Bond he turned the character into a badly acted buffoon. If he ain't gay he ought to be. Worst movie - Octopussy, with the help of a ridiculous story line Moore destroy's the movie with his ham acting.

    6. Daniel Craig - Haven't seen the movie yet. He was good in "Layer Cake".

He was better in Layer Cake. Don't like his distant pouting in the latest Bond movie. Like friggin Brad Pitt in Troy. Get a life.

He's good in the action scenes though, such as in the hit in the bathroom at the beginning of the movie, in the chase through the construction site and in the fight in the stairwell. In the action scenes, Craig's good. In some of his tough-guy facial expressions though, he's pouncy.

As it is the festive season and Christmas is just round the corner, shouldn't the thread be about which one of these old gits will die first
anyway Connery and Moore are the only 2 worth watching

Connery, I guess, but I think Moore was OK as well, especially with his ability to carry off those funny lines:

    Live And Let Die:

After wrecking the learner pilot's plane "Same time tomorrow Mrs Bell?"

When Tee-Hee is unable to undo Bond's wristwatch with his metal hook: "Butterhook!"

Having thrown Tee-Hee from the train, Bond releases his prosthetic arm from the window frame. Solitaire asks: "Now what are you doing?"
Moore answers: "Just being disarming, darling".

And, when Kananga explodes after having had a gas pellet shoved in his mouth:"He always did have an inflated opinion of himself".

But I agree, he is the most gay Bond to date.

    My favorite was Roger Moore.

I'm biased because he's the first Bond I knew and watched growing up.

The Spy Who Loved me, Moonraker, and Octopussy etc.

Connery was the most believable Bond character IMHO and Moore seemed to have the most fun with the role. Actually, one the best scenes that sticks out is a Brosnan one. An assassin kills Bond's love interest and attempts to do the same to Bond, but Bond turns the tables and now points a gun at the assassin.

Assassin: I was only doing my job.

Bond: So am I. (Fires a killing shot into the assassin)

Nothing funny in that scene, just hardcore.

Sean Connery was a good Bond and I wasn't surprised to see him topping the poll so far, but I have to agree with Begbie. Timothy Dalton ate the role up.
I haven't seen the new Bond yet, heard mixed reviews but I will judge it for myself.

Loved Sean Connery as Bond, but thought Timothy Dalton was the sexiest. I fell in love with him as Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights -- really nailed the dark and brooding approach.

For mine the best Bond was Connery. The epitome of suave and cool. Even now, he still brings a touch of class to any film he's in. He recently topped a "20-1 sexiest people in the world" show on Australian TV.

COnnery cause his voice is great and he used to be a wrestler so he always looked like he really could flatten the bad guys, unlike the other ponces who played Bond.
Craig's not bad in the latest flick though, especially when he's being tortured in the nude.

For his most violent film role, see The Offence (1972):

I'd say Connery for style, but Dalton definitely had added a bit of a dark side to the character, which was a bit of a change. That said, I have enjoyed Brosnan's portrayal of the character, even if I wasn't always crazy about some other aspects of the movies.

I am not sure which actor was the best, prob Connery

certainly his films were much better, mainly because they were very funny without being obvious about it. Moore was too much a ham.

I remember the first time I went to see the Bond movie, with Connery

The audience just did not get half the jokes. I actually was the only one who laughed sometimes!! embarrassing...no. Maybe they were not expecting an action movie to be funny?

I think it was the stupidity of the general audience that made the director think that the jokes should be more obvious. Hence the later heavy handedness
    I have reported your post

Dalton was shit, but the last one he played in was quite good, but didn't look like one.

Moore was probably the best as making a parody of it, which was the original idea of the book.

Sean was the most charismatic, and he is still the original

As for Brosnan, he was just a little queer in his suit, too British and too serious. Fucking boring. Probably the worst. It looked like Inspector Gadget. A sad joke.

Now, I went to see Casino Royale, and I wasn't disappointed at all. That new guy is pretty good, and the director has even re-introduced that old original action tempo that you could only find in the original Bond movies. No silly hi-tech gadget, and a very powerful and charismatic actor. He is pretty good. A must see. Not boring at all. For those who gave up Bond movies because of that fag Brosnan should give it a try again.

Brosnan is far better in things like After the Sunset and The Matador, where he parodies himself, almost.
