    The good old Stickfella

    The good old Stickfella

Now he has been at it for a while and does get a lot of hits weekly. I am not a regular reader but will from time to time have a look. I have to say, in all honesty, that I have found a few useful things over the years but always kinda feel that he aims it at the visitor rather than the resident, with the visitor waiting eagerly for the column between visits.

So without turning it into a slagging fest (some chance) what are you opinions of the column. How about the new notstick site?

Personally i quite like mangosauce and am a more regular visitor there.

I think it is pretty clear that Stick is aiming at people overseas. Sort of a keep up to date with some of the stuff going on, a bit of gossip and a bit of advice.

On the whole I think his weekly is pretty readable, I particularly like some of the interviews he does.

I used to be a fan of Trink, back when he had two full pages in the BKK Post, for all sorts of reasons the Night Owl column became a poor shaddow of what had been and Stick took up the format on the web.

Both Stick and Trink suffer from the same two basic problems

Problem #1 Is what I call the "No longer a blank piece of paper syndrom"

They publish their opinions which are then promptly jumped on and ridiculed by people who would otherwise gladly look at at blank piece of paper for ever whithout ever adding anything to it. (Some people have ideas, others don't .... and resent those that do)

Problem #2 is achieving some measure of sucess. Itself good reason for some to commence never ending ridicule. (Some people have sucess, otehers don't .... and resent those that do)

He publishes his perceptions - and all the internet chuck norris' who disagree get all macho about it. He has ignited a furore over at thailandfriends because he had the termerity to say that he had heard a few had skipped out without paying their bills at the last TF meet.

his blurb is good bait for identifying wankers.
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

He targets the middle aged, bar girl marrying market. If you are not part opf that group stickman's site will hold little appeal to you.

I'm not in that group, but I nevertheless enjoy reading it from time to time.
As I say, his interviews are quite enjoyable.

He's moderately entertaining and occasionally interesting. He's also a nice fellow. I've never met him, but I've won his weekly photo contest several times - most recently winning a dinner at Oh My Cod!, which was better, IMHO, than Sin.

Ask Mrs. Stick is usually pretty funny. She's basically a 'nice' girl who's pretty clueless about many things. I should start a Ask Mrs. Qwerty column. She wouldn't hestitate to call bullshit bullshit!
