Thread: Should I Do It? Would You?

Well, what a strange week.

Earlier in the week my wife asked me if I would call her friend as she has something she would like to discuss with me. I gave her a call and what transpired has been rather a strange one.

This lady owns a modeling agency and she was asked to find some models to test for an advertizing campaign for a new brand of shaving gel. I said I would go along and see but was not sure about it. Anyway, I went to see her earlier today and got to meet some of the people involved with the shaving gel company. I had some photos done and now they are asking me if I will go for a professional photo-shoot next week and to appear on the advertizing.

The advertizing will consist mostly of large billboards around the country, and also some full building covers, some up to 80 meters tall. They will also be in magazines.

If I decide to go ahead with it, the adverts will basically be a shot of me with my top off and gel on my face, looking in to the mirror running a razor over my jawline, and for another one I will be freshly shaven and brushing water away from my face.

Pics will be done in black and white which I thought was a classy idea.

I asked about how much they are wanting to pay me and they said it would be in the region of about B180,000. Not bad for a couple of hours work I was thinking, and then to add to that they said that they may have another product for me after this ad has run it's course.

But should I do it? It may be a little strange seeing huge images of myself around Bangkok and the rest of the country, I'm not sure if I would be comfortable with it to be honest.

What would you do? I have to decide pretty quickly.

say yes but if you don't like how the photos turn out reserve the right to pull out at no cost to them.

^^^Absolutely. Do it. Friend of mine had blond twins when I lived in Bangkok - made tons of money for a couple of years renting out his little blond kids for TV commercials and the like. All they want is a foreigner to sell their product. If they think you will work, DO IT! Small investment of time, good money and probably would be fun. Seeing your mug all over town might be a bit weird, but I expect the novelty of it will wear off soon. I vote go for it.

My wife and i had, much to our surprise i might add, one of our wedding photos stuck on a very large billboard in the centre of town around 5 years ago.

Didn't lead me to fame or fortune but with your good looks i'm sure you'll do better.

Personally, I would feel quite comfortable with 180,000 baht for a few hours work.

Of course you'll do it - you just wanted all of us to think you're really cool and are indifferent to the idea.

Baht 180k is peanuts. They will also use these images on TV forever and a day.

Baht 500k should be a minimum as you will be required to pay tax plus plus plus....

I think this is the sort of thing they are going for, but done in black and white and more of an upper-body shot.



They told me that originally they were actually going to ask Bryan Robson but decided that he may not appeal to the younger generation.
