Since I live here in Thailand I'm not really interested in politics and especially American politics.

That Obama comes in for some stick and he's only been charge for 5 minutes even on TD he gets it.

Maybe you could fill me in with all the jokes are everywhere about him

All a president needs is the approval of 51% (or less- look at the 2000 election) of the voting public (or the electoral college, if you're a stickler)- a president that is disliked by 'only' 35% of the American population is considered a great success.

America is an unflushed toilet these days and neither the right wingers nor the left wingers want to take the blame for it. It just stinks and it ain't getting better.

There is a minority that outright resent the fact a Black got elected, but they are not large- they just make a lot of noise. There is a larger minority that outright resent a Democrat being elected- always is. The Republican dirty tricks brigade was much the same under Clinton.

But when it comes down to it, ignore the hyperbole and look at the numbers. Obama's approval rating is virtually identical to Reagans, during his first Presidential term when the US economy was not doing well.

Erm, over 18 months in office and he's just started? He's already passed three horrendous bills, pushed the economy into a deeper hole, feked foreign relations, and increased unemployment, to name a few disasters. Cheating the People by lying to them: only the rich will have tax hikes, obamacare will allow them to keep their docs and lower costs; the Stimulus will create jobs; he is in charge of the Gulf oil spill; the border is more secure; and on and on. Apparently, his golf game is improving.

The people that hate Obama are the ones who loved Bush-Cheney. The two losers who LIED about WMD as a justification to force regime change in Iraq.
The same ones who got us into two wars squandering billions for no purpose.
They are the ones who don't mind spending 20% of all federal spending on a huge, bloated military but want to deny healthcare to 40% of it's citizens. The same ones who want no interference in the shady practices on Wall Street but want to deny unemployment benefits to working people. My Impression is that he is trying to do what should have be done a long time bevore, he is on the way to clean up the home country first. No need to be the World Police as long as your own Country needs to get into shape. Obamacare is one step into that Direction. For the rest he has to eat the soup he got served from Bush and he certainly didnt blow up that Oil Platform himself.
