Thailand - TeakDoor Censorship - Will it Happen?

Looking at the way Thailand is going it wouldn't be much of a suprise if nasty farang forums were banned from Thailand, regardless of the last coup or the next one, or the last dictator or the new one, the Thai's don't like us talking about them and their fuck ups, of which there are so many.

So, which would you prefer, a mirror site or a proxy server if the inevitable happens?

a https proxy is the way to go - make it available to donors and TD amulet wearers.

I run a PHProxy | Download PHProxy software for free at SourceForge.net for my personal use only - a small welcome page with login to look like a webmail portal to convince corporate IT nerds to allow me access its URL, and a robots.txt to stop it being crawled.

Nice to see you are prepped for seemingly inevitable shoot the messenger tactic
Im not a geek but read that proxys are frowned on by BIB and can be filtered?

I dont know if theres cost implications but both would be good or anyway of preserving this excellent communtity
I find the banter fun and even whinges good examles of excatly waht mature educated informed democray is all about warts and all.I will also be a lifeline and conduit for mutual help if the colour conflict escalates

Once back in LOS next month I for one will happily donate by cheque/bank twhatever to help finance this I hope others can help via ads, software advice or mirrors in the way
www.wikileaks tries to be untouchable so if plod close one avenue 2 more spring up.

Im sure you have members up to spee with software and legal brains to steer the best course.
Be good to get in place asap,as any xeophobic minister could bring this in in an unannounced non beta very Thai way.If we all know the plan B the forum can survive and give no grounds for closure.

For obvious reasons the big transition will be a time of shock awe and headless chicken scenarios.
I think there'll be few tears if Transvestitle sorry George TV goes
west but TD perhaps appearing to be an Ed visa site etc is the new ruse!

Good luck DD and all the berated Mods prisoners and witty contributors keep up the good work.I find this site annoying stimulating funny and controversial and nice to have my boudaries pushed by the full responses albeit tongue in cheek or trolling of usual suspects.Baldrick,Tisciar Mtd Ant Panama Smeg Slackula Noodles Good2BHappy Happyman JJ and Begbie all brighten up my day and remind me the fun and insanity of the LOS we all love.

As for Jet and Boonmee I am speechless ad reminds me USA is another dimension.Nawty the name says it all !!

Would say 100 bahts only $3 a head voluntary levy on all members do it? I'll gladly chip if the hat is passed round.perhaps these chores and reseach could occupy some of our jailbirds and help em "rehabillyta"te themselves

Nah DD. You're worrying about nothing.

If Thailand banned TD it would look like the Thais were concerned about what a small group of farang were saying about them.

And that would lose them face. Peasants.

PHProxy doesn't support https and it is not under active development for almost a year, Glype is better IMO... but both will work fine under the scenario dd has described

DD, what makes you think it will get banned. Can you tell if the CRES or the Thai government is viewing or reading Teakdoor?

Wish I knew what you lot were on about with this techie stuff.
If Teakdoor goes "off-air" in Thailand I will probally look for the bloke making the next "teakdoor".
Anyone wanna do some laymans terms for the proxy and mirror shite so the other 95% reading this has an idea on what you dudes are saying?

Think of the word 'proxy' as 'proximity'.

Basically it is as though you are using another computer to access the net through your own computer, making websites think that you are in another physical location.

OK, perhaps a stupid question, but seeing as I'm rather far removed from Thailand & have been for a while, is censorship really getting that bad there that it might take the forums down?

They are quite aware of TD - I'm sure it's on the radar. If such scenarios of repression were to be enacted, they probably would have pulled the plug some time back. Teakdoor, et al, are safe for the time being. A little anxiety is healthy....but nothing to overly fret about.
