Did you know that Geneva, Switzerland holds the biggest 4th of July celebrations outside of the USA? I may potter along later on. For the fireworks.

Dunno. There are lots of Americans that live here. There is a large Embassy and quite a few marines. I don't know if it is still true but it was a few years ago. They do a great day. importing marching bands from universities etc. And it is a lovely sunny day too!!!

In fact I may just go and spend the afternoon there. Good food, music and beer.

Tell a lie - I just googled 4th of July, Geneva.

It says there are 10,000 Americans that live in the Geneva area. They are having a party but you have to be a member of some club to be able to attend.

Not like it was a few years ago - great day out. Their loss.... Probably worried i may have a homemade bomb in my handbag.... Being Irish and all that!!!

I've been stuck in the office all day- I do have a string of 10,000 firecrackers that I've been saving since Chinese New Year that I'll set off later tonight- the 10K strings are great- they take (what seems like) forever to finish going off- the dogs will love it (not).
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Yep- the strings go from 100-250-500-1000-3000-5000-10,000.

The 10K ones are a bit pricey at ~$80, but they're worth it.

I can probably find a pic somewhere...

This is a 10K string being set up (right next to an active burner- I love Thailand):

Boom (it gets insanely loud towards the end as they all start going off simultaneously):

ISLIP TERRACE, N.Y. — Police say a man lighting fireworks has blown off his arm at a party on New York's Long Island.

Suffolk County police say the 36-year-old man's friends and relatives retrieved his severed left arm and packed it into a cooler after the blast Saturday. Police say doctors at a hospital are trying to reattach the limb.

Police believe the man leaned over a mortar tube containing fireworks to ignite it outside a home in Islip (EYE'-slip) Terrace around 5:45 p.m. He apparently didn't or couldn't get out of the way before the explosive went off.

I remember my cousin having to go to the emergency room for serious burns because he blew off a 'smoky joe fountain' under his bed. Nasty burns. After that I always left the pyrotechnics to the professionals.
    Happy Fourth to all!
