The 'Purple Heart' appears to be a uniquely US type of award, for injury associated with enemy action in an area defined as 'active service'. I don't believe there would be many instances of abuse of this award, and probably for every one that was 'suspect', there would be a 1000 that would be more than deserved. I don't know of any other nation that awards a medal specifically for injury (doesn't mean that there aren't any of course).

In the UK, the most common medals are 'campaign' medals, i.e. for service in areas of 'active service', and for which there is always a qualifying period (typically 60 days). The General Service Medal is the most common campaign medal, and usually for military 'police/civil support' type deployments (examples are Northern Ireland, Aden, Malaya etc). Specific medals have been issued for service in areas such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and previously in the Falklands, where deployment is termed as combatant against a specific enemy (including terrorists).

For the UK and Commonwealth, there is no higher military honour than the Victoria Cross, and is more than comparable to the CMoH.

No, I meant whom. It's the object not the subject. Why is it you wouldn't know that with all your wisdom?

Point is service men are getting medals for any injury caused by enemy action. And so proud of it they'd dedicate their license plate to it.

I ask: Why does the US invade a nation and then define them as enemies? Did Iraqis invade the USA and kill Americans? So then you, as a soldier, can be pinned down under fire so long your feet freeze, or rot, and you are entitled to squat shit. But if your country invades another country under false pretenses and one of the defenders shoots you, you get a medal for it. And if you're clever enough not to be shot you get nothing. Or if you refuse to participate you get a prison sentence.

Sorry, your grammar is incorrect, not only in what is the sentence's subject/object but also the subject/verb agreement. Do you say "whom were here?" Perhaps "on the board" confuses you.

US military forces are not the ones to choose what war they fight; the CinC does that. Medals are awarded based on their conduct in the field.

Who do you love -Bo Diddley. Poetic license and Jet make this correct.

Still no life. The USA awards medals (they signify some sort of honour) to soldiers who get hit with bullets and shrapnel. It's not for the soldier to question why he's even in a theater of battle. He will leave the battle a lesser man because he didn't let himself get shot. The end result is a message: Go where we tell you. It's an honour to be shot by whomever we define as your enemy. Now doesn't that make an 18-year-old want to join the Marines?

Agreed. If anything, it lessens the contributions of individuals to their nations security, to that of an attention seeking moron.

Oh, dear, you are mixing up the subjects/objects.
Whom do you love is correct as whom is the object of your love quest.
"Whom have pretended to serve." Sorry, incorrect. Rule of thumb for dummies: If the answer for "whom" is him, "whom" is correct. Doesn't quite work, does it? Hopefully, you don't say sentences like "The rest of the board is smarter than me."

People who enter the forces to serve their country are worthy of praise and honour. It is not their choice where they are sent to serve.

Wet Organ, ask yourself: Threads upon threads have been dedicated to your failures. You can't have but two or three admirers here and they're all rednecks like you. Have you ever stopped to think: Gee whiz, I'm a senile old Bingo-winged loser who lives for lying to faceless, nameless forum members as I present myself as a fantasy I have of myself. Maybe I should get to the nearest bridge and jump off.

    Please consider these kind words.

Yes, I have the Congressional Medal of Honor with oak-leaf clusters, dipped in gold with a cherry on top. But the medal I'm missing from my collection is the purple thingie. God! Why wasn't I wounded. How I yearn to go back in time where I can hurl myself into enemy fire. Truth is I want one of those number plates...

Honk if you have The Purple Heart

Our examination found that existing documentation regarding the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart medals indicates the awards approval process was properly followed. In particular, the senior officers who awarded the medals were properly delegated authority to do so. In addition, we found that they correctly followed the procedures in place at the time for approving these awards....

.....Our review also considered the fact that Senator Kerry's post-active duty activities were public and that military and civilian officials were aware of his actions at the time. For these reasons, I have determined that Senator Kerry's awards were properly approved and will take no further action in this matter.

Unlike you . . . so he has far more credence than you do, especially in these matters, irrespective of how tough you talk, the military jargon you use, how much you lie about having five generations of your family fighting for the USA, your specious claim to be a DAR member or the toughness of your barbie avs

If any of y'all have medals from combat and you're proud of them -- good. Be proud.

I can't help to think about a guy I knew in a wheelchair who had a Purple Heart in place of two legs. Of course he did have a % of disability he had to bite, scratch and uppercut The Vets Admin for.

It's a sick system. The military wants so to attach glory to to military service when in fact there is none, IMHO. Dying to protect big business interests? Sad!
