Although the URL says "Thailand December 10" the photo is not in Thailand. I just had it in with a bunch of photo's I took during that time.

Taken at New Brighton Beach last week. This guy with a rake makes these massive temporary art works just north of the pier.

This particular piece wanted to highlight the artist's opposition to deepwater exploration for oil by Petrobras. The waters that the vessel is doing seismic tests on are two to three times as deep as the Gulf of Mexico waters where the Deepwater Horizon blew out.

    pues, estamos aqui

Durian time in Chanthaburi, with the 'World Festival' (Chanthaburi World Durian Festival) starting today through to 15th

Out cycling yesterday, Highway 3 and turned at Noen Sung, busy place as it's where local growers take their durian to be graded/weighed and sold

I'm with you on this one, I remember the first time the mrs came home with this stuff, I walked out of the bedroom thinking something had shit itself and died, it turned out whatever had shit itself and died was being eaten with a smile by the mrs and her sister.

One of those crap hole hotels around Phuket! Terrible. I feel cheated Payed $300 for 7 nights own bungalow had to put up with a huge infinity pool, beautiful grounds, friendly muslims, no crowds great food breakfast/brunch free and had to pay 60bht for a beer what a rip off.

This is a pic I took from my balcony last night, 30 second exposure, unfortunately it started to rain too heavily to have the camera out so I missed the better lightning and the opportunity to improvete settings.

    Hi Natalie

Koh Yao Yai Village Resort. Agoda have it at $53 a night in July. We got it on a local promotion. Fantastic place no hype, or rush. Many on the site trash Phuket and area. Outside the tourist traps and out of peak time I find it fantastic, and very beautiful.

and on the way home, sapphire mining at Ploy Waen, near our home

There are about 15 active and mechanized sapphire (blue, green, yellow and black star sapphires) mining operations around the Khao Ploy Waen volcano, starting up now as dependent on rainy season for large volumes of water required

some more info here A visit to Chanthaburi sapphire mines

Today I went the annual rocket firing in a nearby village. This is the launch pad for the 150mm diameter rockets.

^like a Space Shuttle launch tower! How were the rockets?
I went to the rocket-firing festival in Sa Kaeo last year, some dodgy creations yet everyone left alive and with their hands still attached to their arms.

^Yesterday for the first time I saw, what can only be described as, a flying wheel. It spun horizontally and flew vertical. It wasn't launched from a pad and was really imposing. One actually blew up about 25 meters up and the remnants demolished a tree near the spectators. I'm unsure as to whether anyone was injured. No rockets blew up on launch this year, so looks like their skills are improving.
