Took a nice bus ride today. All buses are hybrid vehicles, and have wifi and usb ports at each seat for charging

This will surprise many Thais, a well kept healthy dog, allowed on the bus

    Getting to Penzance.

A brand new church being built in the grounds of Marie Pitak school Nang Rong, Buriram. I'm not into churches but this is a really nice building.

^ Holy Haysus! Wonder if the street carts out front will sell bland red wine, stale bread and holy water?

I find it's worth walking an extra 2km to the Polish shop, for a better beer selection and at 1.40 a can it's a bargain. Plus they have many 5.5 to 6% alc varieties.

Spot the odd beer out amongst these Polish & Lithuanian brews

    ^Stella is a wife beater.

The rest are puking on the building site in the morning while trying to ram a kanapki down your neck.

^That would explain why the Polish builders threw up each morning while doing my roof. I'd always assumed they'd seen my ex-wife getting dressed

Currently in Naypyidaw and it's an interesting city- not a ghost city- just had dinner with Simon42 in a busy mall. Here are some pics
The day started with an 8.am bus- too early for a holiday. A pic of the bus station in Mandalay- the contrast between Mandalay and Naypyidaw is stark

Here's what $36 a night will get you in the capital- and everyone says the hotels are overpriced here. I've never had to pay more than $50 USD for a comfortable room. There are currently only six guests staying.

The like to ferry you about in golf carts-used it once it is so so nice to be able to walk around without almost being knocked down by morons on the road.

As with many new builds in Myanmar it was done on the cheap and quickly- the room is comfy enough, the staff lovely but there are cracks in the buildings already.

I get to dine on fake Versace- HiSooooo

The pool is clean and well maintained- no complaints and I had the whole place to myself for the afternoon. Tomorrow I'll visit the "sights"

As promised, pics from the capital. The road to the parliament is massive and mostly empty

The main pagoda in town is impressive and a bit more lively than the Parliament area

Top Gear did a Burmese Truck Drag Race along it.

    I presume you've seen it.

If not, it's a must watch. Their 2nd best Top Gear Special after Patagonia.

A final pic from this rather odd but likable city- went to the Fountain Park in the early eve- it was actually fairly crowded.

I'm glad I made the effort to come to Naypyidaw, it was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Mandalay. I enjoyed it for being clean and the ability to take a walk if I fancied it, as previously noted the driving style in Mandalay makes this risky rather than enjoyable. Pretty much zero entertainment options, I can see how people would get very bored here.

Years ago any bloke travelling to Oz would be planning for birds, booze, barbies & beaches.

In todays Australia, it is illegal to wear it, unless you are going to meet a gay effeninate (preferably ethnic) bloke called Sydney, and strict customs would verify this on arrival first.

    These charity shops are fabulous

Pics of Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi taken by spouse. Heavy Taj Mahal, Granada and other Muslim architectural influences readily apparent: lots of stone inlay, marble...and chandeliers more appropriate to an entertainment venue...
