Possibly not too smart, but stylish

One of my old friends works for the US government. He has also been married, for the past 12 years, to one of the most evil, horrible bitches ever to breath. Widely regarded by all who have had the misfortune to know her as a miserable creature. He was due to retire last week, with a monthly pension (after taxes and medical insurance) of about $4,000. She informed him that, as soon as he retired, she intended to file for divorce. Under US Federal Law, as she had been married to him for more then ten years while he was a government employee, she is entitled to HALF his retirement. FOREVER!!! As long as she doesn't remarry (like someone would have her). This, by the way, applies only to federal employees, and, in addition, you can get raped by the State for alimony as well.

I just got an e-mail from another friend tonight.

My friend walked into Personnel last week and RESIGNED! Fucking quit! Finito! Done! Resigned three days before he was eligible to retire. Ergo, no pension - nada.

Appears he told his brother that he was only 52, could find work, and that the loss of half his pension was a small price to pay to watch her starve. And if the State wanted alimony (there are no kids), good luck finding him.

Classic!

This thread has potential, Davis.

I think it would be better in the Lounge as there are some who can contribute.

A retired US Navy fellow that us the post here told me that if a person qualifies for the pension in the military after 20+ years, the wife can get 50% for life.

And yes, in few rare cases, guys didn't even do the paperwork to get Navy retirement because they didn't want to their wife to get paid - for life.

This can also apply to union pensions and other pensions in the private sector. If a couple is married so many X amount of years, a judge can rule that a pension must be paid out to the ex.

I can understand the bitterness that motivated him to such drastic actions and it definitely took a lot
of balls for your mate to do that, I hope he can sort himself out financially or it could be a rough retirement for him.

Good luck to man I say

good on him.

he had other options, though............
perhaps if she was killed in a motorcar accident or something before she filed for divorce, he could have carried on working, collected his pension AND her life insurance!

justice!

Yeah, but you risk getting caught.

Yeah, but you risk getting caught.
not if it is a "real" accident.
nobody gets caught for "real" hit and run accidents in thailand.

Indeed, it is quite the tale. I half admire and half feel sorry for the guy.

Question:

The guy is from the US.

What is the wife's original nationality?

Is they a naturally born yank?

I know it doesn't matter, but I'm curious.

We also, don't know the full story. Maybe this guy was a reall azzhole.
We don't know anything really.

Thankfully.

As a longterm strategy couldn't he have recorded his wife saying such things as "I'm going to take you for half you're gonna get" and press charges?

I understand this would take an awful long time in court, but gathering evidence that she was only interested in money and whatever else your friend possesed was all that she was interested in would make for a good annulment case?

that would take a fair bit of logic and it seems logic was not the prevailing brain pattern at the time

she is a muslim fire eater, he is an genuine US all-American insurance clerk, a born again Christian

the full story is that he will get a pension, she is entitled to half that pension by law. Why she waited until the last moment maybe is written in the koran

"by the will of Mohammed, praise be to his name, all women shall share equally in the goodness of marriage" (and that includes pensions) "unless the marriage be doomed " it goes on "if the husband of the wife is infidel, all his possessions shall be forfeit in any case"
