Funny Thai Laws

List the funny Thai laws that you know of here, could be quite amusing

Underpants must be worn in public in Thailand, probably half of us break that law daily.

Your Thai wife cannot divorce you if everyday you go and get a blow job from a different woman, that is not considered reasonable grounds for divorce

The B I B don't know them - they make up as they go along.

Carryng your passport at all times could be annoying if you bothered to do it though

There isn't a law about carrying a passport in Thailand I don't think, there is a law about having to carry id in Thailand though, this applies to both Thais and foreigners.

I was fined 500 baht in Bangkok for not having my passport on me, who knows if there actually is a law, its a tidy little earner for the dibble anyway.

That was a long time ago or are you talking recently? I was there one night about 8 years ago when something like that happened, not funny

I think you will find that the law states you must carry id, id is something that is recogniseable, ie an international driving license that has your name, address and photo on it.

In the first post I said they make em up as they go along.

One says one thing and the other says another but they do try it on with the passport thing.

As far as I know a Foreigner shall carry his passport or a copy of same with a copy of the visa page, another type of ID is not enough if they decide to be difficult, because that do not confirm your visa status, most don't but if you are unlucky and the bib wants to, they can drag you to the police-station until someone produce your passport and your visa status can be confirmed, and slap you with a small fine like Spin got.

If you have a Thai drivers licence maybe that will do in most circumstances, but apart from that there are not that many types of ID for a foreigner that have any meaning to the Thais.

ID's is for Thais, that is their means of identification, not that many Thais have a passport .

The expat club down on beach road do a service where they make downsized laminated copy's for you to carry for the same reason.

Now all that said I just carry a fake international drivers licence, my proper euro licence and passport I leave at home, and I knock on wood never have had any trouble, I could have had a copy made and I could have gone down to get a Thai licence but I guess I'm just bone idle and cant be bothered

^^Spoke to a Thai Judge once who said he just given a German guy 57 years for sleeping with boys and 6 years to a Thai that cut off his wife's head and keeping her in the freezer. I said I know the German got what he deserved but the Thai had done a very bad thing too.

He came back n said but we must make example of Farang.

Jumping continents - there is a Cyprus law that can mean instant divorce- no court case just tell the the Mayor if your wife does not sleep at home, without the husbands permission.
An aquaintance of mine - a seaman on a coasting vessel out of Limassol- came back and found that his wife had been staying with her sick mother for a few days while he was away and hadn't asked him - got a divorce on the spot !!!

Good ploy - she was bloody 'orrible !
