| Too many types of Issan people to generalise surely, the laos, khamin, phoot thai etc atc, all very different in some respects. Just came back from several days in darkest issan where morlam is hardly played at all- all die hard fans of the harsher sound of kantrum, a drone like sound built around the saaw rather than the laos khean. Also a myth that most young girls from villages head for bar work. Wifes village has a large population and only one girl is know to be bar working-many of the girls these days have degrees, met several this week up their for a celebration. Sinsot definately is not dead in khamin areas. |

Regrettably, all too often the 'big new place' in the local area is paid for by a farang, all too often the girl is an ex-BG. It's the case around here too. Nothing against either the girls or their affluent Beau's- but when you look at the stark contrast between the 'in your face' affluence of the Bar girl (and once they get indoctrinated into the life, they're not shy to flash it) and the long, uphill grind of the equally or more attractive girl that studies at University, or just works in a factory, frankly I'm surprised more don't take the easy option.

| ^ I would bet half of the girls who marry foreigners nowadays have educations and met their husbands through the internet. I know three who met through yahoo chat. One of those has a Phd. Take a look around Thailand and you will see much more farang-Thai activity that isn't related to the nightlife than before. Even some girls in the best universities in Thailand want to marry foreigners. There's a lot of communicating going electronically. |
