US Hikers Still Jailed in Iran

Wow, Obama diplomacy is really working.

The families of three Americans detained in Iran 11 weeks ago for illegally crossing the border submitted a petition for their release Thursday to the Iranian mission at the United Nations.
The petition with 2,500 signatures expressed "deep hope that the Islamic Republic of Iran will show compassion in this unfortunate case and release them as soon as possible", supporters at Free the Hikers said in a statement.
Josh Fattal, 27, Shane Bauer, 27 and Sarah Shourd, 31, went missing on July 31 after setting out on a hike from Iraq's northern Kurdistan region on the poorly marked border.
Iran later notified the United States, through the Swiss embassy in Tehran, of their arrest.
They were seen on September 29 by the Swiss ambassador to Iran and reported to be in good health, but have had no contact with their families.
"Our children have been detained for 11 weeks and every hour they remain in detention brings us more heartache," said Cindy Hickey, mother of Bauer.

*sob* And we just wanted to hug them. And Iran is our friend. Obama will save us!

    ...

Are you really going to spend the next 3.5yrs, possibly up to 7.5yrs, turning every little thing, no matter how tenuous, into an attack against Obama?

It is a bloody very strange place to go for a hike, we once had a couple of young tourist's arrested in an eastern block country, and the press was all mushy about those two poor boys on holiday and just not knowing where they could photograph or not, later it turned out to be two young officers from our military intelligence on a spy mission.

The two Girls that got nicked trying to enter North Korea and this lot, I think I will wait and not take their (cover!!) story's as "the truth and nothing but the whole truth" just yet.

The truth seems to be folks entered the country illegally and were arrested. Sob, sob! Same thing happens in the US and countries around the world everyday.

Guess Obama needs to rush right in there and bust em out. Never mind the US has had no diplomatic relationship with Iran since 1980. Obama is to blame.

Not to close to the prison the hikers are in I hope. Not likely to win the hearts and minds of the concerned parents.

Media reports said Bauer had been living in Damascus with Shourd -- who teaches English in the Syrian capital -- since late 2008. He speaks Arabic fluently and works as a freelance journalist, though he was not on assignment when he entered Iran.

Fattal has been described as an environmentalist who taught sustainable living skills in several countries, including India and China.

President has nothing to do with release - and should not.

This is a legal and quasi diplomatic matter.

It's obvious that these idiots are being using as bargaining chip and pawns.

Bring back Jimmy Carter so he can send in the troops to rescue these poor, tired, misguided youths who strayed off the path of righteousness... We all know how well he did the last time...
