somebody have to pay for the gas, so I guess the owner have deducted a weeks salary from the guy. No wonder theres anger.
I cant really see people just walking away with goods in Europe just because the person in the counter did a mistake

What I allways do as in this situation , is to say song roy baht and put the exact amount in his hand before he fills it ,, bit like filling up in the states ,,,,,,,,,oh well good luck with it

I would send a trusted Thai friend around to sort out an amicable financial solution before something nasty happens mate.
Good luck.
Happyman- It is hard for anyone with a functioning brain to imagine how the attendant could have got it wrong- did you point to the car and say, "Fill 'im"? Doubt it. Still, it shouldn't be too surprising when a dolt who absorbs lead and inhales petrol fumes all day does something really, and really honestly, dumb. Next time tell him to siphon it back out. I'm sure all the boys who grow up here know how. Otherwise, I think Loy Toy has offered good advice.

I can understand your sentiments entirely, but this could easily escalate into something really nasty. The 1620 baht is a hell of a lot of money for a pump attendant and he lost a lot of face into the bargain.
He gets the chance he'll fuck you up so be really careful with this one mate.
someone has the gas you did not pay for
up to them, not you
Give it some time and let it cool down, the guy was way of in the first place, who the f... gives a 200 baht tip just for getting the car filled, and that even before getting any gas, surely the guy knew he was wrong and this time the scam did not work, because that is what it is, I'm sure there are plenty more than you that get more gas than they expected or asked for.
Avoid that place in the future and tell your friends to do the same.
I don't think it was a scam, just a stupid pump attendant not thinking
go see the hire car people and explain they had the gas, they have to pay, at least for 1000B worth
They are scamming here in Pattaya all the time, some stations are known for it, one scam is having 200 -300 baht on the counter already before they start filling up Your car, and another is the owner telling his employees to try to fill up every car with more than are asked for, when you protest they surround your vehicle and act very threatening.
No Thai are so stupid as to expect 200 baht tip for filling up your car, but is it a farang just maybe it works, he will moan a bit but then pay up and drive away, they are not stupid in that sense, they know exactly how to get our money and gas stations are notorious for all sorts of cheats.
I have only had a problem at the petrol stations that are situated in the shopping complex on the Bangkok- Chonburi Motorway about halfway between Bangkok and Chonburi.
Always check the metre reading as on a few occasions they have added a few hundred baht too the metre reading because they thought a farang would not check.
They always try to short change you as well so be aware.
I am not sure what the scam is? putting in more gas than you asked? they would hardly make any extra, and you would not really lose outOriginally Posted by larvidchr
yes, the best way for this is to ask for an exact amount, like B1000, and to check they have filled it properly. Pattaya sounds like a fun place to live!Originally Posted by Loy Toy
I have reported your post
Actually I have never had a problem buying petrol in Pattaya apart from purchasing dirty fuel which clogged up the system. When I told Larvidchr about what had happened he laughed and said he knew about this particular petrol station already.Originally Posted by DrAndy
He's a bit of a local policeman in this area (nothing gets by him even when he is sniffing petrol fumes)) protecting the rights and safety of the rest of us farangs.
come come now LT, I only knew about it because our respective GF's on the Estate told us not to buy fuel at that particular station since there often is problems with dirty and waterlogged fuel, there are a few other places to. Scamming with the counter has been reported by many expats from the big gas station near tuc com, and they tried it on with my GF at the PP station sukhumvit road near central Pattaya road.
It's just normal here, it can happen and you just have to learn it, like you learn not to wear thick goldchains on beachroad late at night ect.
^Won't be Butterfly he's a stingy twat
Couldn't believe it, this tosser just handed over 100b before the guy had even filled the bike and said "this is yours", you do get these flashy idiots trying to impress the Thais this way.
I used to pump gas, when I was a student
we got several large tips of £5 that made us all very happy!
there was also a smart woman of middling years who would ask one of us to clean her windscreen and, as were were wiping, she would spread her legs to show that she did not wear panties
that also made us happy
Yes, but how old were you? If it was like the US used to be, you would tip the service station attendants because they would, in addition to washing the windscreens, check tire pressure, oil, radiator, battery, and generally give the car a once-over. In Japan they empty your ashtrays and vacuum the floors, to this day (or at least when last I lived there). You pay a little extra for good car maintenance.
I was 19, and yes, we did all that stuff
must admit, all I get in Thailand is a free big bottle of water
