The unfortunate Pablo Escobar asked a couple of questions in his 'ripped off by visa agent' thread that got me wondering....

So.. how many of the following things have happened to you in Thailand?

1. fallen in love with a bar girl
2. got caught out by a ladyboy
3. had a motorbike accident
4. been overcharged
5. been stung by a policeman
6. been conned in a go-go bar
7. caught an std
8. had a heart attack
9. been buggered by a ladyboy
10. been accused of shoplifting at Bangkok airport
11. been on a nightmare visa run
12. had a Thai whore fool you into sending her money each month
13. walked into the wrong office and paid 12500 baht for a visa you wouldn't receive

So, where do you fall on the Escobar 'scale of bad luck'?

I will admit to having had 8 of the above 13 things happen to me...
I score 62%... But I still love Thailand and have yet to be Smeggified in my way of thinking.

Only 5, and none of them was being buggered by a ladyman.

I can admit to 5 of the above and caught crabs from an American bird in Bangkok and scabbies from an Indonesian girl in Jakarta. Are those afflictions considered STD's?

I can confirm that 1 of my 8 was being overcharged.

However, further details on how you scored on Escobars scale of bad luck are not compulsory...

1,4 and 5 for me. Although for No 5 it was easier to pay the copper than going to the cop station, and quicker.

Must have been lucky with No 6

I see where you are coming from... Some people may not view all the things in the 'bad luck' category.

I didn't choose the list.. You would have to ask Mr Escobar for the clauses in the fine print.

i have to confess to guilt on 40% of the offences mentioned in the op.

poor ole escobar needs a bit of sympathy:
let's face it, experience comes at a price, and i am sure most of us have paid the price at some time or other, just too proud to admit it

(something to do with the farang's fear of "losing face"' i think.....)

I forgot to mention being arrested at Bangkok airport for having too many cigarettes and bottles of whiskey.

I think number 9 would apply to most people in this forum.

I am sure number 5 will continue to happen to me. I am not going to drive in that f’in left lane down the highway bumping all the way to and from Khon Kaen (unless they repave the entire roadway for me,..they are making some progress).
