    Thai opportunism

Never have I known people so obsessed with making a quick buck, but at the expense of long-term gain.

I put it down to their dumbarse pride in having never been colonised.

It is all well and good to feel overwhelming nationalistic pride at being used as a virual English Channel by the English and French, who were used to being separated by inhospitable terrain (sea), and thus decided to decree Thailand as a similar barrier (but who could and would have invaded in days had the other European power not been so close by).

As a result of the above "achievement", I believe that Thais are brought up to believe that they are unusually cunning, and that the chance to use this to get one over on a westerner should never be missed. However, the sad fact is that doing this will likely lose them repeat business is massively over their head.

I reckon Smeg blames the Thai's for stealing his sensibility leaving him a bitter little man who thinks he is recovering his mojo by posting this dribble on (and ironically) of all things a Thai based forum.

Not at all. I am fully enjoying life. Part of that involves picking apart the bullshit that is even more apparent than usual upon returning here for a few days.

Perhaps a few months back in a developed English-speaking country would do you good. You might even regain the ability to use apostrophes correctly

Please spare us the extraneous exclamation points.

They don't add any additional emphasis. Trust me.

Now and then? He's been doing it over and over again for years. He's talking to people who live here, they don't need to be reminded - they can go by their own experiences which in most cases seem to be a hell of a lot better than smegs. Smeg just needs to convince himself that everybody else here has fucked up as badly as he did, that he's not alone in being a tiresome loser, that's the only reason for his incessant whining.

Yep, I reckon you lost all that goodwill years ago

since then, all you do is whinge and moan and complain about minor irritations

except to you, they are very serious and worthy of discussion

just grow up, see the big picture and be happy, wherever you are

He will now respond that he's very happy, thank you very much, that he just feels the need to tell it like it is, that he's tongue in cheek, and that it's his god-given duty to point out the truth to those (everybody) too stupid and deluded to see it for themselves. His tired old routine never changes.

a bit different being overcharged in the West though.

In SEA it's generally because you are white whereas back home anyone's fair game - so it's a racist thing in SEA really.

Total poop, Thai's are super adept at ripping each other off. Colour has little to do with it.

Bought a set of rods for abou 30-quid several years ago and you simply push them down the drain. This works, because in the UK drains generally work.

Lost the keys to a bachelor pad I had about 4-months ago whilst pissed in the pub. Total cost was 45 quid, including 3-sets of keys. Phoned them at 10am, went and picked up the keys at 1pm.

Have to take your word for that. You will no doubt cite DD as evidence in any case.

Mother-in-law and wife took mother-in-law's 14-year old car in for annual MOT and service (in my absence) recently. Needed welding, 1 new tyre and a few bits to pass the MOT. Cotal cost was under 200 pounds.

    Was it a Beemer too:
It reminds me of a post that Bkkandrew made on a uk housing forum I stumbled upon recently.......

"As someone who travels an average of 6 long haul sectors per month, I have no idea why you don't enjoy flying. It is simply excellent being picked up by a brand new BMW 740 or similar, being dropped off at BKK/AUH/LHR T3 to the First Class check-in and be on the (free) vintage champagne/G&T/red wine in the First Class lounge within 5-minutes of the Beamer stopping. In AUH there is an excellent (free) menu that would shame most 'celebrity' restaurants in UK. Thereon, free food, wine, champagne and movies on the flight"

Wow, a beemer, ooooh what a fucking superstar

How about locking yourself out while on the piss at 10:00pm, and needing a locksmith?
