    The Shitholes of Thailand

The most depressing place I've ever had the misfortune to come across and indeed live in over here is Saraburi. Depressing isn't the word..more like, oh my, I've actually died and am now residing in satan's back passage.
Sorry to anyone that lives in and enjoys the place but, fucking hell, you must have a very serious mental condition if you do..cos living there nearly gave me one.
It has NOTHING apart from factories, rows and rows of shops selling those plastic plumbing pipes and not alot else. The city is absolutely rammed with vehicles travelling at a steady rate of 10 metres per hour, it has a river running through the middle of it which is green, it's ridiculously hot, the food is shite and the people are wankers.

    AVOID

Not speaking of the whole province, mind. Muak Lek just up the road is very quaint and pleasant..but the city itself is ghastly to say the least.

Care to share where we shouldn't go...?

    Saraburi is not that bad.

Happiness comes from within and that is why many people are not happy no matter where they hang their hat.

I agree with you Chitown, but your environment definetly acts as a stimulus to your inner happiness..

The city of Chon Buri is a total shit hole as well, depressing, dirty, no redeeming features that I'm aware of.

What's happiness got to do with whether a place is a shithole or not? Sure you can be happy in a shithole, for all kinds of reasons, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a shithole.

Sometimes the place you're in is so bad you've got to actually pretend that you're living elsewhere, like if a person were to be living in, I don't know, a mental hospital in the Pacific Northwest and was living vicariously through an online persona that they'd created.

^Agreed, FF. I lived in Surat Thani, a place considered by many to be a shithole. I found it pleasant enough to stay for two years. Friendly folk, good seafood, and it's not that big a place that you can't drive for five minutes and be out of the "shithole" and somewhere else entirely.

I passed through Saraburi a couple weeks ago and was quite amazed how clean the streets were compared to other cities. Quite a few new, modern buildings as well. Was only there about 5 min. so can't really judge it though.

IMO Khao Sarn Road is the biggest shithole in Thailand.

it's all pretty much of a shit hole blighted by bad planning and atrocious construction methods, all looks much the same where ever you go. My personal hate place, apart from the obvious Pattaya would be lopburi, went once and never hope to see it again, that toilet roll monument in the centre is enough to put any visitor off. Roi et is probably the most attractive town, at lest it has a park in the centre and not a half built mall or smelly bus station.

Early eighties I travelled to Grimsby with Chelsea for the last game of the season of division Two (the old one). We had secured promotion after a shite match at Stamford Bridge where at the end of the match the Leeds fans in the North Stand smashed the new state-of-the-art score board. The police enjoyed their freedom to batter that afternoon.

Back to Grimsby: arrived late Friday and told that we should avoid the blue peter pub as that's where their boys hang out - hard bastards apparently. Our taxi driver informed us that "you cockney bastards have smashed up the blue peter already". drunk and disorderly all weekend.

Division two kiss my arse, division one here at last

I think I'm going to die every time I go through Saraburi on the bus. They all drive like the fucking retards that they are through the hills near there.

^ Think I know the exact spot your on about; just past Muak Lek going down a hill past that big laughing buddha and a big gold one a bit further on?
If so, your spot on. I was on a bus that crashed, a few Km's after that spot..early morning rush hour, bus rammed with people, over crowded to the point where the ticket chap would be clambering over seats, aisle completely blocked. I was waiting for the crash, the twat in charge was driving like a fucking lunatic, when low an behold there's an almighty wallop and I see a car flying past my window.
Nobody on the bus died but the owner of the flying car was instantly killed.

I was asked for weeks after this, whose fault it was by the bus company people, to which I replied everytime that it took 30 minutes to get from Pak Chong to the outskirts of Saraburi on this particular bus, go figure it out yourselves. It normally takes an hour.
