The British Embassy in Bangkok is one of the most depressing places on the planet.

I agree. Despicable, abhorrent people. I've met more than a few of these types ambling around the quiet environs of upper Isaan. Always loud, always completely smashed, always obnoxious. Always British.

Why would you expect a high quality of patrons when your hanging out in Nana?

Plus I think every nation produces drunk arrogant wankers looking for a fight.

I used to think that way too, FP. Until I started paying attention who these nasty, screaming, crazy assholes were. It's not unanimous, but its somewhere around 95%

Exactly, if you look in the toilet dont be shocked when you see a turd. They do seem to be a deterrent for thin skinned Americans though, I suppose everyone has their uses.

In my experience the only problems I've experienced with Brits have been largely confined to the younger tourist-type (as opposed to those here more long-term in Thailand).

But then again I've met some equally tosspot Kiwis, Aussies, Yanks, Canadians etc in my time here too.

I'd agree with Texpat here . . . and I'm not on a Brit-bashing spree. It does seem like the overwhelming majority of these wankers are from the foggy isles.

They've saved their pennies and substituted southern Portugal and Spain for Thailand.

Let's face it, they give Brits everywhere a bad reputation . . . and the reason why many here think the Brit Embassy is useless and slow is because a lot of their work deals with these yobs

I've met this kind of scum a few times. Once in Nana on the second level, this fat tattooed fvck thought it would be fun to take piss out of me because I walk using sticks, so I kicked the his legs from under him and stomped on his head. The last I saw of him was him being helped to his feet & comforted by a bunch of lb's from Casanova's who then ushered him into said place.

I see it in Udon Thani and Nong Khai. Not so easily explained away.

I've lived here a long time and have met very few a**holes. To a man, every brit and aussie I have met here has been first rate. To my chagrin, the biggest a**hole I know here is a fellow yank. There are good and bad in every nationality.

Britain does have a yob culture of late. Fights between (usually) young, drunk males (and females nowadays) are remarkably commonplace. They weren't when I was young, now it is all over. No idea why this has happened. I do know that mental health problems have also been on the rise over the last few decades. Coincidence?

I also know that these types are from low class, low income, low educational achievement type backgrounds. Usually low intelligence too. Some of them have reasonably well paid manual labour jobs, but not many. Usually the families have a history, either with social services and/or the police. The American equivalent might be a redneck or hillbilly or even trailer park trash. Jerry Springer hosted many of these American versions. We are all from the same DNA pool....and its a big pool....

The guy who deliberately walked into me and one of his mates, looked like they'd been in a few fights in their time. Sometimes I hate being English. Sometimes i hate that we are in a recession and cheap flights and hotel deals mean more of this type. Sometimes it is best to stay at home I guess....but then why should my life be inconvenienced because of an imbecile...? What happened to freedom to go where you choose?

as others have said, low rent brits come here looking for cheap gash to boost their self esteem, they also go to greece, cyprus and spain but sadly the women in thailand arent so fussy.

no shortage of lowlifes from other countries, but the brits like to swagger and brawl, yanks dont travel well and thankfully there is a lower amount of trailer trash to be found here, maybe they go to mexico and central america.

no shortage of german, russian, middle eastern african and scandi rubbish here though.

thailand as a country lacks morals and decency and self respect, with no shortage of destinations that typify that and it follows that people of the same ilk will be drawn to them like flies to a bucket of shit.

sad that mongers of class have to put up with them.

I lived there for 10 years, the only time I can actually remember it not being depressing was a few months in '95 and I put that down to a heatwave and a large batch of lsd.
