Health rules go up in smoke for Kitty,100 yrs old.

    07.08.09

A pensioner has revealed her secret of reaching 100 - smoking 20 cigarettes a day for 84 years.

Great-grandmother Kitty Butcher has puffed her way through a pack of cigarettes every day since she was a teenager in 1925.

Mrs Butcher, of Paignton, Devon, still gets through 20 a day as well as several whiskies before she goes to bed.

The former greengrocer has now reached her 100th birthday and says she has no intention of kicking the habit.

Mrs Butcher, a widow and mother of three, said: "I have been smoking since I was 16 and have never stopped.

"I just don't know how I have managed it, getting to 100. I have had such fun in my life." London Evening Standard.

I just bet it is just a kick in the ass, being 100 years old is just when you start to really enjoy life.

As the saying goes, youth is wasted on the young...

Good on Kitty... A couple shots and a ciggie just to get her going...

My grandmother made it to 98 without ever quitting smoking (successfully) or drinking (she never tried to quit booze, bless her soul). If not for the depression brought on by her four insane daughters she might easily have cleared 100- I'm convinced her children accomplished what the booze and cigs couldn't.

the old man is 73 cycles 5 miles every day, walks a bull terrier every morning to keep fit and he is.
smoked all his life and is a big guiness drinker.
i firmly believe a lot of old people die from stress and lack of company to keep the brain cells ticking over, think young stay young.

My father smoked constantly and drank like a fish. He died of a stroke when he was 54 after years of pain from pancreatitis, leaving five children and a widow. I think that's, sadly, the more common story.
