Farrang Suicide Rumours ; Kao San Road

Just heard from a friend that works down there that a farrang has killed himself jumping out his window from the Buddy Lodge (Mr Browns old place) Kao San Road.

    Has anyone seen any reports?

Wow, a farang? Jumping from a window? To his death?

You don't see that every day.

    ...unless you're in Bangkok.

Why is death always considered to be sad, for the deathee?

Maybe it's cool. Or at least less hectic. Or less boring. Maybe cheaper.

It's not sad for the deathee now but it sure is for the poor folk who loved him..I think condolences to the family are the best words under these circumstances.

Why is it that so many falangs commit suicide in Thailand?

There must be an incredibly high statistic on this - number of suicides per number of tourists.

They probably think they're in paradise, and when they finally see the light and realise the truth, the disappointment and harsh reality is simply too overwhelming.....

One must admit that if you're gonna commit suicide, having a ball first makes sense. Go out with a sort of semi bang.

Wonder how many have been decided on before the guy even lands here.

Indeed, and thank you for demonstrating so eloquently by example.

Seems you still haven't learned that important lesson.

I met a few folks when I had kept a bar in Samui who had come here to drink themselves to death. They were dying anyway and thought that being here doing what they were doing was the best way to deal with things. That's fair I suppose..
But depending on this poor chaps age it is quite likely that the 'semi bang' is the cause of his suicide..its very easy to get carried away here when you've got western money in your wallet.

Maybe it's just being reported more -- of course, which leads to more people reading about it, which leads to more people getting ideas...

Sure. But don't so easily discount by age. Most suicides are by the young, methinks.

I remember I arrived in Calcutta in 1987.

We arrived mid morning and me and a mate went off around town.

Whilst we were away some French girl who had been working with Mother Theresa threw herself off the roof of the hotel we were staying in.

Everyone sat around glum including the guy I was with.

I remember sending out for a few beers and enjoyed sitting there thinking what a bunch of tossers they were, especially my mate.

He'd never fuckin' seen the girl........

I can sort of understand, for instance , an elderly farang - wife died perhaps a few years ago- not wanting to stay on this mortal coil- etc -coming out here -blowing his remaining cash and taking a flyer.
I cannot, and will not, ever understand why seemingly young to middle aged prats do the same !
Why don't they just get out of the rut - ignore their emotions and just sort their life out .
What on earth is going through their minds!
OK lose your job - get redundancy payoff or whatever , go to Thailand and find a girl- spend cash like it is water - she gets a new buffalo - you run out of cash - she leaves you 'cos you are broke - take a jump !!

    WTF !!!
