Yes its a Swine Flu thread

Ive had a bout of hayfever/cold for the past few days, annoying but nothing serious. Last night my father, son and myself went to pick up a moped from a friend, roughly 7pm. From the time we left my friends to getting home my son who had this same cold suddenly started with a nasty cough, came out of nowhere. Last night he had a high fever, nothing unusual as they would happen every few months in Thailand.

This morning he seemed a lot better, fever was down but aching and the cough seemed to have gone. I checked the symptoms etc and it looks like he's got swine flu.

Theres an online service for the UK but I guess the symptoms will be the same in all those horrible foreign countries so if you want to check symptoms heres where I did it.

Swine flu - Questions & answers

This is an online service for checking symptoms which will, if you qualify give you a code to collect a course of Tamiflu from your local pickup point in the UK.

The main thing is DON'T PANIC.

If this needs a merge somewhere then go ahead.

go to a proper doctor to check before self diagnosing.

Thats not the case here. They dont want the person possibly infected to be going out so its a combination of over the phone diagnosis from the GP and collecting the anti-virals form the pickup centre which is all dealt with online, thats why I posted the links.

    Forgot this link

    https://www.pandemicflu.direct.gov.uk/

That is for the online service for Tamiflu.

I'd go to a doctor but i'd also be very reluctant to inject my kids with anything. There has been a recent warning by by the medical industry about doing this.

The big problem is the panic.

    1. Youre advised to contact but not go to the doctor unless the symptoms are serious, his are mild.
    2. Tamiflu is a pill not an injection

Reading the bumph, antiviral drugs relieve some of the symptoms, reduce the time you are ill by around one day, so is it worth having sickness and diarrhoea for three days to knock one day off of your illness? We will not give it to our child, bad enough cleaning up after one end, but two ends! they are capsules not pills, but you already knew that, didnt you Jesus?

He seems fine now, temperatures dropped and just waiting for the doctor to call back to say whether its worth doing a course of Tamiflu. I personally feel it isnt needed as this seems to have died off as quick as it came. As long as he doesnt have any sort of relapse in the next day he should be fine.

Like a lot of people he seems to have had a really mild case of it, nothing to get too worried about but enough to take the precautions.

Not worth taking Tamilflu now. No point. Sounds like he should be fine. Will probably make him feel worse. I know a lot of people are worried, but they shouldn't unless as has already been mentioned, they are pregnant or have bad asthma.

Unfortunately it's not going to go away for a year minimum. Again, the reason it's high profile is it's potential.

Just go about daily life as normal, wash your hands often and don't touch your eyes and mouth. Same with most viruses.

Hope you all feel 100% soon. MB.
I told my neighbour's son not to come anywhere near my house for two weeks after he returns from Mexico.

I'm off to hang out at the tamiflu collection points.

Tried ASDA and Ikea the last two days and I'm still not sick.

Best bet is either the collection points or down the Bigg Market in one of those closely packed dingy pubs

    Tamilflu is a bloody con.

I hope the lad gets well soon, Mate, and that you win the lottery so you can leave that dump once and for all.

I'm a great believer in getting it now...just in case it mutates and worsens...you might be afforded some protection, but you might not...I've had it I think...was unusual in that it gave me the shakes, like a blood sugar crash and I felt a bit out of reality for a day or so. Sore throat, mild cough...but my lungs haven't fully recovered, but then I smoke like a chimney...

I am quite the opposite, Spanish or Greek yup! Never Thai.

Anyway reading the reports here in England they suggest rather loose stools, somewhere in between King Eddy cigars and full on explosions at regular intervals.
