Grass eating isn't just to induce vomiting. Many dogs eat it as a 'salad'. It's also learned behaviour from other dogs.

Re ticks, Bung. Not sure what the vet did - sounds like a 'spot on', but try & keep him clear of ticks through spot-on, Ivomec injections, whatever. They are the leading cause of E Canis, which is a huge killer and can be unnoticable until too late. Also keep up with heartworm prevention - another silent killer. Both can be kept at bay by cheap Ivermectin injections every couple of months.

The poor bugger was full of them this morning, big ones at that and spent a while pulling them off and feeding them to the fish. It's bad here this time of year and I think there are some nests around the house. He came up and sat by the kitchen door which my other lab loved to do and a saw a bunch come running out of a crack in the wall! Seen some small ones running around the tiles under the house and even found one on my stomach much to the mrs disgust, better be carefull or I will be sleeping with Lucky!

He probably wishes he was back in the bush, he only had fleas when I got him!

I got some frontline spray which I put on his feet and places he had them congregate, see how he is the next few days.

He caught a mouse today, found one dead so he must be able to move with some speed, good boy, we got lot's of those buggers as well at the moment, the joys of living on a "baan suan" I guess.

We had a tic problem not so long ago. We'd be forever picking the bastrds from between the doggies toes, the horrible things love scavenging in the tightest of nooks and crannies.
The prob got worse and worse and they were everywhere, maybe cos we were living on the farm at the time and we had chickens everywhere too. When the prob got ridiculously bad, we evacuated the house for 24 hours and nuked the place with Baygon. We didn't leave a stone unturned. 48 hours later the place was tic free and has remained that way since..
Good luck with it all, Bung..I'm sure Lucky still thinks he's lucky..

OK, time for a bit of an update.

He's been doing great and filling out but the other day I found him lying in the corner of my shed and he wouldn't get up no matter how hard I called him so I watched him for a while and realised he was in bad shape. Given his history and seeing his condition had me worried he wouldn't still be with us in the morning if we left him like that so the mrs called the vet and luckily she was open on the Sunday and I carried him into the car. When I carried him into the vet I realised he was burning up and the first thing the vet did is confirm his temp and it was raging so she gave him a couple of injections and gave us the option of taking him home or leaving him there so we took him home, thought he would feel better there.

He came good almost immediately, his appetite wasn't affected, and on taking him back to the vet next morning he was ok. She checked again - a couple of more shots and some pills - and he's been fine since. Even tore up a pillow in the car on the way home!

Still eats dirt, the vet say's vit deficiancy and told me to give him his vit pills 3 a day, I had been giving him one, which he gobbles up like treats. She was flat out on that Sunday even walking out to cars in the street to give dogs jabs, said there was a lot of sick dogs and she looked knackered the next morning bless her.

Yes, the vet is Thai, she has been very good but basic facilities. You want pictures of her?

No, I did ask the mrs to ask the vet but she was so busy we just paid and left. Wish I did but he got over it whatever it was, I will make a point of finding out next time I go there. Must have been good yaa whatever it was she gave him.

I was thinking about this the other day and you having a new Labrador so quickly and very much like your last one might have scared the bejesus out of whatever prick poisoned your last one. As superstitious as Thai's are I hope they thought it was some kind of Karma and that the dog came back to get them the b'stard..
Especially if they saw this one thin and sick thinking it is one that survived their malicious attack..

We were having dinner tonight and normally have the 3 dogs sitting by the dining room door waiting for any scraps.

I noticed that our new 4 month old long haired black terrier was not sitting with the other dogs and I called him with no success.

I decided to grab the torch and found him laying motionless on the grass next to the pool and he was obviously very dead.

Right on time my whole family come running out and to see me with our poor little fella in my hands with froth coming out of his mouth.

I fooking love dogs and he had the potential to be a real gem but fook it hurts when they die.

My wife (thats the first time I have ever seen her cry) got the guard to dig a hole where we gave him a fitting burial and then I got the torch looking for this fooking snake.

^ That is the saddest part. Everytime. The kids. Still, so many people tell me they'll never get another pet for that reason. Noooo! It's part of life, loving, responsibility, fun. The whole world may think you're a jerk, but Bongo still runs to the gate to meet you and the kitties still snuggle in the crook of your leg and neck at night and purr you to sleep.
Heck, in the afterlife, you get them all back anyway. My pack probably take up half of Rainbow Bridge. I guess they've met your little muffin already and they're all causing havoc for the dog angels. (C'mon! We'll show you how to sneak up on Gabriel, pee on his leg and take off before he knows whodunnit.)

The one year old pug is walking around in circles trying to find him at the moment.

She has her place to sleep and he had his, right next to my bedroom door and for the first time she is sleeping there tonight.

Quite sad really as they were great buddies as well playing almost the entire day.

That's almost as sad as hearing about your daughter. Ya, it takes awhile for them to forget. My Sis's dog goes ape when I go to her place coz the dog figures Sis is right behind me. She still waits by the door every day from 5-5:30 waiting for her to come home.
    Reminds me of Hachiko...

    True!

A lot of the locals freaked out. Even had some kids around who kept calling him "Odie" (my other labs name).

Sorry to hear of your loss LT!

That sucks going out and finding him like that.

You sure it was a snake?

Foam at the mouth, you sure it wasn't a bait? ( I hope not) Real easy for the locals to do that for the slightest of reasons.

Sorry to hear about that, losing a dog is pretty tough. Are you sure it was a snake? Strychnine poisoning does that too (I know because some bastard poisoned on of my dogs a couple of years ago, it was horrible watching her die)

yeah I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, (well maybe my worst enemy but not his dog) I was thinking the same thing, maybe even a toad, small dog and young sometimes = toad curiosity even older dog but this amount of poison ingestion given his size could have been the result more catastrophic for small dogs than larger ones...you do have plenty of toad possibilities around there..More so than poisoning neighbors thank goodness..

Thanks for your kinds words fellas and yes my daughter and wife are still pretty cut up about it. He was such a smart little dog and we even had him doing many tricks.

Anyway I searched everywhere for a snake today and couldn't find one (which was a relief) but did find some insecticide in the shed he may have got into.

I have absolutely no enemies around here and would rule out the possibility about someone baiting him and by the way Bung, Nedwalk did mention your loss too me and I am terribly sorry to hear what happened with your dogs.

    Bastards should be poisoned themselves.

Sorry to hear about that too, Loy Toy & agree about the bastards being deserved to be poisoned themselves.
