A quicker slip into Pattaya or a white elephant?

Well I finally found the time today to take my motor bike up for a ride on the new "Tollway" which will create a huge shortcut and when entering or departing Pattaya.

You will join the Tollway at the junction of the 36 and 331 highways and when coming for Bangkok on the Chonburi bypass road.

I did meet one of the head civil engineers and he would not commit to the finish date but he is saying probably another 2 years.

Probably because there are still some belligerent people who will not stand aside for a main road!

Well at some stage during the planning of this project we were told that our village was going to be demolished but we managed to have the Tollway moved a couple of hundred metres north.

This is a picture of my house and with regard to the land in front I am in the process of trying to buy this at the moment.

To bad they could not have run the Tollway straight over the top of this monstrosity being Sabang's, Larvidchr and my favourite mosque.

Anyway the road looks great and there will be an entry/ exit gate about 2 minutes drive from my front gate so it should really up our property worth.

As you see this section of the Tollway has almost reached Sukhumvit and the flyover which is also under construction.

As I was up so high I thought I would get another picture of my house. We were a little worried about the noise problem we may experience but to our surprise we can hear very lttle even when the construction trucks are motoring up and down the road.

As you will see from the above picture the front building is The Bangkok Pattaya Hospital with the Nagluer shyscapers in the background so we have almost reached Pattaya now.

Now the big question is whether people will want to fork out the 40 Baht Toll and to use this new road and to cut 15 minutes off their trip.

Certainly the tourist buses won't and based upon my discussion with the locals they certainly will not use it.

Will this end up being another Thai "White Elephant" sitting there not making any money and as another monument to Thaksin's glorious Casino plan?

Quite a nice road with 2 metre cement crash barriers going either side.

They're building a bypass behind Jomtien too.Pproblem is, it goes strait past the estate where a mate lives (Baan suan laluna) and it loooks like their access to Jomtien beach (walking distance) is stuffed- they'll have to drive along, then u turn on a high speed road..

Will the bypass come out in Central Pattaya LT, or just drop you back on Sukhumvit?

^ As you probably have seen they are building a flyover, elevated slip road which will join up onto Sukhumvit between Central and North Pattaya Roads.

There is talk of building a flyover joining Siam Country Club Road and Pattaya Klang but when they see that nobody except us farangs will use this tollway everything will come to a grinding halt.

As far as I can tell you will be able to get on and off this tollway at the new road east and running parallel with the Railway track, just west of the Black Pearl Bar on the main road back to Sukhumvit Rd and of course at Sukhumvit.

Great for us mate as we will be able to get in and out of the place very easily soon.

I believe most members here divorced their white elephant for a quicker slip-in at Pattaya
