It was precisely 7 days ago that I had my last beer(alcoholic beverage).
I don't know how long it will last but only time will tell.
Has anyone else tried this and how did they get on?
What do you the members think of giving up the booze?.

It's a nonsensical idea. That is simply the start to the road to perdition.
Not natural, safe or sound.
All kinds of side effects.
Increased health
Longer life expectancy
Fewer motorbike accidents
Fewer lost nights
/ weekends / weeks/.
Better sex life
Thinner
Save money
Obviously a mad move. Give up the idea immediately.
Did 5 days and felt great into the 5th
Then christmas came and fucked it up following a 8 day binge
I am very happy with the results I have had since I had my last drink.
I have suffered all the side effects listed above and I have no regrets about quitting.
It is 26 years-11 months and 3 weeks since my last drink. a little over 1 week more and I will celebrate 27 years since my introduction to AA.
I've tried, many a time. Never worked. Finally settled on a day on, day off basis. Works.
well it kinda cuts out the long terms shit.
What freaked me out a few years back, was when my best mate asked me, straight up,
"when was the last time you went to bed sober?"
I couldn't answer.
Give up = good.
Control = suits me.
Admit it, really nothing to be ashamed of.
Either you can quit or you can't.
Them that can, quits,,
Them that can't ,,drinks.
i can drink every night or can go weeks/ months without, doesn't bother me
I gave up drink & drugs for my NY resolution but will recitify that tonight.
Same for me, don't drink at all when I am in the UK and wait till I get to Thailand, then go on a solid 3 or 4 week binge.

Fair enough. Good luck to you.Originally Posted by good2bhappy
Can take alcohol or leave it.
If I lived in Australia would never drink but living in Thailand is a different story.
Never drink at home but give myself a good seeing too at least once a week and as a stress relief and in the bars.
Drinking for me is a social event but if I thought that it was affecting my health I would kick it in the bin immediately.
Good one BG for your personal achievement and good luck g2bh and with regard to your health thing.
Having said that excessive use of anything is not a good thing but if you can control it.......... great!

I totally respect those that give it up, but that's their call. Good on em. Sympathies for them that must fore go for medical reasons. Gout..... what a bugger.
I dont drink that regularly, sometimes months without any booze. If friends are around then its more likely I'll have a skinful but Im in the take it or leave it section.
If you really want to give up booze drink a longneck of Singha, you'll never touch alcohol again.
The Geek Shall Inherit The Earth
18 years since I was last pissed. I have had a drink since then but only as a slammer fine session or to be polite you can probably count the number of drinks I have had in those 18 years on two hands.
Didn't use AA just stopped, don't want to start again either but I'm a boring bastard.
Are you feeling better for it?Originally Posted by good2bhappy
That's all that matters.
Sunday will be my 3rd week without any beer. I drank wine and vodka on NYE and now plan to drink only once a week and on special occasions.
I will normally finish work around this time and have a few beers when I get home. Now I don't even feel the urge.
I'm sleeping, eating and shitting better than I have in years and I feel great!
My plan is to drink less than 70 times this year. That allows for once a week + any unexpected special events or mates coming over, songkran, that kinda thing.
I think that sounds terrible when I say I want to drink less than 70 times in a year but the truth is that its probably been 300 times a year for as long as I can remember.
i like beer
I like beer too, but its getting me nowhere.
When I've had enough of the beer I usually switch to Vodka and Tonic. hic!
funny you mention that, after 8 days I have noticed that my bowel movements have improved.Originally Posted by The Fresh Prince
