Good time for a career change?

I've already put in my notice so the point of this not to be talked out of it but whether it was a foolish thing to do in the first place. I'm giving up a safe, somewhat low paying job to go back to school for a business degree.

Considering the times, however, this may be a bad time to do something like this.

Have no idea with regard to your age but improving yourself by further studies and degrees can only be positive.

I would think that a recession / depression would be the best time to go back to school. By the time you're done, the job market would be on the upswing.

Or conversely a good time to do it. If you can fore go the income then further education can only add to your job competitiveness in the future. This "crisis" will not last forever so why not be in a position to be of more value to employers when the economy rights itself.

I am presently developing 2 new forms of packaging for the industrial paint and oil markets.

These new designs will be lighter and faster to produce with improvements regarding safety performance and user friendly features.

I feel it is the best time to launch new products as when things are busy nobody has enough time to rethink the way that they are doing business or about the products that are their flagship.

I agree now is the best time to re-engineer yourself and your businesses.

Sure. Always a positive step to further your education and whatnot. But....a business degree? What you might take with you from a 'business' field within higher education circles is nominal. Not practical....

I completed my BSc (Hons) degree last year at the age of 54. I would recommend a university education to anyone at any age, i just wish i had done mine a lot sooner.
Still unemployed and in a recession, i am now over qualified and also too old. I have therefore decided to retire.

Good luck with your degree and enjoy the experience.

Go for it AS, and good luck to you, and even if it does not pan out in increased earnings or job opportunities it will still add to your personal development and knowledge base.
