The Oscars - Quick Win List
-
I was hoping Mickey Rouke would have won , guess not being a Hollywood kiss ass worked against him.

Agreed. Maybe winning the other trophies went against him?
-
Didn't work against Sean Penn though did it?
I haven't seen Milk but I would bet he put in a great performance as he usually does. It must have been good to beat Rourke in The Wrestler.

Micky was out acted. it will be interesting to see what comes his way now in terms of roles.

Interesting concept. How do 2 actors, in 2 very different roles "out act" each other.
Hasten to add that I haven't seen Milk yet. I still ask the question. Are you referring to characterization, screen presence, commitment, audience manipulation, suspension of disbelief?
What do you mean? I'm interested.

Means Sean Penn is a result of Hollywood nepotism and therefore 'out acted' Rourke who juiced himself on roids to play a very unique and believable character , while Jeff Spicoli just played a Queer this time around.
-
Did you watch both films?
Like I say haven't watched Milk yet but wouldn't be surprised if Sean Penn pulled it off, he's an Oscar worthy actor who has put in some fantastic performances in the past.
Oscars are generally flawed anyway though, agree with that much.

Interesting assessment of their respective performances. Based on gossip, bullshit and rumour. Hardly an objective appraisal of performance.

I agree with you 100%. I'm trying to download Milk right now. I look forward to watching it. My question to Ghandi is, surely it's just the performance, presentation and product that counts in the final evaluation.

Hardly, we are talking Hollywood here.

Thanks, Gandhi for the winners. Not sure I think Slumdog Millionaire deserved that many wins. I liked the film, but thought The Reader was better (didn't see Milk or Frost/Nixon or The Wrestler so can't comment).
Wall-E best animated? I hated it. Littl'un liked it more than I did, but even he doesn't rate it that highly. I agree with The Duchess for Costume Design.

Very fair comment.

I actually like Penn as an actor very much just thought a total underdog like Rourke was more deserving of a win.
-
But who's performance do you think was better, Penn in Milk or Rourke in The Wrestler?

Not playing the game has it's history to work against you. Marlon Brando, George C. Scott, Russell Crowe, Alfred Hitchcock {among other maverick notables}, et al have such reputation. Like all high-profile and establishment award offerings...it's extremely political and nichey. Nonetheless, kudos to all the respective winners and good on Sean Penn.
-
Didn't see Penn. I thought Rourke was basically playing himself (his boxing history).

Errr, in Hollywood? Like Penn said, you commie homo-loving whatever. Political move, IMO.
And um, does Bollywood's potential cash infusions into Hollywood have anything to do with Slumdogs' sweep?
I only applauded Kate and Heath's wins. Athough also political, IMO.
