    Is this misogynist or chauvinistic?

I recently saw a report on the Russian, former Soviet Embassy in Berlin.

They have a reception hall with huge crystal chandeliers, that need to be cleaned thoroughly once a year.

It is traditional that the cleaning staff is not allowed to do it. Those precious chandeliers are cleaned by the wifes of the top diplomats.

    I like that.

As for the OP, not misogynistic. Maybe chauvinistic, but let's face it, it doesn't hurt for those ladies to give something back in return for their privileged lifestyles. I'm sure those in full-time employment are let off.

What happens if the diplomat is a female? Does hubby need to clean the lights?

Grandfather clocks stand on the floor Willy. They don't hang on walls.

Having the chandeliers cleaned by the wives of diplomats won't erase the memory of the mass rapes and other atrocities committed by Russian soldiers during the fall of Berlin in 1945.

Tuddy, you're not seriously trying to tell us that similar atrocities were not committed by Germans on their earlier march East?

The Germans were a far more organised and orderly military unit and discipline did not completely deteriorate as it did in the Red Army during the fall of Berlin where hundreds of thousands of civilians were raped and murdered.

Naturally, similar atrocities occurred on both sides but not to the extent they did by the Red Army on the ground in Berlin.

No, it was documented thoroughly (as in the concentration camps) and then documents shredded when it became clear defeat was iminent.

You are undoubtedly right in the numbers. However, neither side was blameless.

I was thinking about that too. I doubt that they would be involved.

I think what happened in Berlin at the time was almost organized and very widespread.

I doubt that the same happened to any extent near that by the german army. However there were many well organized killings and also rapes especially by the SS units as far as I know. And those were intended and organized.

Does that mean there's a lot of Russians around that think they're German?

Wouldn't technically be a perpetual motion machine if it was - it's based on Bhaskara II's model.

But obviously I can't go into to detail here, still waiting for the patent papers!
