Anybody seen the moon tonight, very bizarre looking happy smiley face. I don't have a camera, any chance somebody could pop outside, take a photo and post it here?

Dr Bob, I owe you a HUGE thank you for this! I can't see the moon from my office, so I went outside to see it. Firstly, the moon & the two stars looked so comical, I was laughing. I called littl'un out to see it. Now, since his Dad died, he's been convinced his Dad's spirit is on the moon. He's just told me that that was his Dad smiling at us because he loves us. He's so happy at this sign from his Dad. Thanks for telling me it was there. You made a little boy very happy.
My camera is not up to it I'm afraid.
The face is missing a nose.
Damn, I was going to start this thread myself
everyone is looking outside,
^^ My camera wasn't either. Just 3 light blobs against black.
hmmmm, we cannot see it here in Jakcity - totally overcast and cloudy.
That's unlucky as this will not happen again until 2036.Originally Posted by kingwilly

Just for NR's little 'un
must be smiling on Thailand tonight
thanks theters and melvy
I took a pic but it turned out shite. But how bright are the two 'eye' stars! Very odd, almost preternatural.
Yep, someone has a sick sense of humour.Originally Posted by good2bhappy
The 'eyes' look a lot more parallel from here than they do in those photos!
Gone now. Or at least it has here - can't see the moon at all. Littl'un's bedtime so we went out to say goodnight to Daddy & 'he' wasn't there. But littl'un is happy. He saw Melvbot's & Thetter's pics (which we're saving) and he reckons Daddy was just tired smiling at everyone for so long.
Cheers guys, for the pics. I'm so grateful.
It's not Jesus and Mohammed's second coming I'm afraid. The one on the left is Venus. The one on the right is Jupiter. They have been close together for a couple of weeks but yesterday was their closest. I got my flipper girl looking at them through my telescope but she does not believe that it is possible to see planets and insists that they are both stars.Originally Posted by AntRobertson
Sorry, don't know your situation, but your post was so nice, glad the little one is happy, I have an excellent view here in Chiang Mai, and it is amazing, glad to hear it made the little one so happy! You have Christmas coming soon so, hope you make the best of it good luck! Kids can be amazing and so resilliant, they can see some of the wonders that we take for granted seem so special that we cannot see! Good luck, unfortunately, I didn't realise how unusual this was else I would have tried to take a ham fisted photo, but I'have missed the opportunity.
However, if you want to replay this, you can download some software called "stellarium" which allows you to recreate any posiotion or time on earth related to the nights sky, if you send me a pm I will try to send the program to you, you can replay the smiley face for your little one over and over again!

Mine aren't the best either I'm afraid but that's what you get when you balance your camera on a towel and pillow on top of a chair and manually press the shutter button.
November Rain you can tell our little one that in this photo his Daddy was having a little party.
^ You didn't know his Dad - that is probably the truest of the lot!!!
Thanks, all. Littl'un wants me to print out the pics & put them up in his room, so I'll do that tomorrow - including the party pic!
Its Stellarium it is free and quite amazing!
that's lovely NR.Originally Posted by November Rain
actually reminded me. One of my brothers died years ago when I was young. We used to tell you mother during every thunder storm that is was our brother playing football in God's kitchen and switching the lights on and off!
helped us come to terms with the loss.
Doh!!...though I was being smart spotting this, guess not....
Here's my attempts, was there for a while using graduated filters to balance the light.
