Mates wedding or the missus' birthday?

A mate is getting married in sumatra, I was planning to go and take a week traveling around. (think TD travel thread plus traditional indo wedding) .... but it has just been pointed out to me, that the following day is MrsKW birthday.....

    which one should I do?

    Lilo's a fool.

you offer to take the wife on holiday for a week to celebrate blah blah and end up at mates.

Advise mate of cunning plan, he puts up a sign or something to vaguely relate to wifey bit.

    Every one happy.

    The wedding is midweek.

    Wednesday.

    Her birthday is Thursday.

Apparently a party on saturday doesn't quite meet the criteria of being there for her birthday.

She is just doing a power thing there.

Tell her Saturday or not at all.

She is going to have a birthday every year, hopefully your mate is not going to have a wedding every year.

Tell her it is an Australian custom. It is very very very bad luck to miss a wedding that you are invited to and anyone who stops someone from going to a wedding, will never, ever have their own wedding.

    Both.

You can attend your mates wedding, and take your missus on a "birthday trip" to commemorate.

Something different to do, and a win-win situation for you, and both of them.

FFS Willy it's your mates wedding (hopefully a once in a lifetime event), she can't go because she has to work and is she really pressuring you......????????

I wasn't going to post here because of her obvious unreasonable attitude and your apparent subservient henpecked way of handling this situation but decided as a fellow Ozzie you need advice.

Just go to the wedding and let her get on with arranging her Saturday Birthday celebration.

Anyway I thought all woman hated birthdays, and after they turn 21 and she is just showing her insecure nature. I fooking hate that in some woman and would not stand for it.

Fair comment. Lay it on how old he is. Does he really want to celebrate his age?

Family almost always takes precedence over friends. It's a wedding. Your friend will get over it if you’re not in attendance. The spouse should be a little more understanding but no reason to overlook her bday. JJ has the correct solution. I'll add a caveat. In addtion to taking the spouse along, suggest that you will make up for her lost earnings while on the trip if in fact she does not have vacation time. After all, you have to live with the woman. Show her that you care for her. Cherish her.
