Scampy in Bangkok, who's going to do it?

Homeless Man Takes Up Internet Panhandling

HOUSTON -- A homeless man is part of an Internet experiment to get him some help, but is it at the expense of his dignity?

Tim Edwards does not like to talk about what got him there, but he has been roaming the streets of Houston for the better part of five years. "A lot of times you just go to sleep hungry. But tonight, I know I am going to have something to eat. I am going to be alright," Edwards said.

Edwards said his new hope is thanks to his new job, but not everyone is convinced his path to improvement is guaranteed or ethical.
Edwards' new employers, who pay him a minimum of $100 per day, have started a Web site called pimpthisbum.com.

The site is all about Edwards and it solicits donations on his behalf.

Vistors to the Web site can buy him anything from a cheeseburger to laser hair removal to a college education.

There is also streaming video showing what Edwards is doing throughout the day, although the video is available only intermittently for now.

Sean Dolan created the Web site with his father, Kevin, who was recently laid off by a software company. "We had to make it kind of edgy to get the exposure and have people talking about it." The Dolans promise all of the proceeds go to Edwards, and the Dolans do not keep any of the donated money. "It all goes to Tim," Kevin Dolan said.

So what do the Dolans get out of the deal?

    They said they're getting exposure.
Their theory is if they can make Edwards popular, they can make anything or anyone popular, a bankable skill to attract big businesses.
"Take a homeless guy on the side of the street that has a sign, 'I should have used Monster.com,' and Monster. com just turned (someone) into a walking billboard," Sean Dolan said. But is it ethical?
"You're going to find people who offended by anything you do. Judge the outcome, don't judge the process." Sean Dolan said.

Edwards does not have any complaints.
He said he can now sleep at night knowing he has a source of income. "This might be an avenue off the streets, a way I can climb up a little bit and get out of here."

If they really wanted to help him, they could have just let him live in their spare bedroom.

Funny... I've seen this guy before... The above photo was taken less than 1 mile from my office in H-Town...

Don't feel too sorry for him as it is likely a scam... It's been documented here in H-Town that a lot of these "homeless" folks actually make as much, if not more than those of us who work for a living... A local TV channel followed some of these folks around while on their rounds... One vagrant actually was picked up from his interstate overpass office one afternoon by a Cadillac Seville and driven to his 4 br, 3 bath home after putting in a hard day...

    Watch the shiny object...
Give a man a match, and he'll be warm for a minute, but set him on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Who pays for a flight to a 'third world country' to beg for a living?!

Who was that other guy who used to sit at the bottom of Phrom Phog BTS station, he's disappeared after all the media attention he got.

In my opinion, if you have nothing to contribute to a country that invites you as a guest, then beg or plead poverty, contact your embassy and fuck off back to where you came from.

The footbridge connecting Empire Tower to Ampang Plaza in KL is a classic example !!
To get over it I used to have to pass at least half a dozen poor ragged Indonesian or Bangladeshi women with half starved little kids around them, all looking pathetic and holding out McDonalds paper coke cups for alms.

If however I left the office late - about 7 or so - they would all be at the road level being picked up in a Merc people carrier !!

Oh and did you notice they even spelt Thailand incorrectly, I should have refused their invitation, but someone told me that their inaccuracies, inconsistencies and overall corruption was worth it just fer the birds. So I accepted anyway

Right, Tim the bum will be online with cam at 8am Thai time tomorrow morning, questions are welcomed, stuff like are the FBI after you and wild accusations will probably make it a lot more interesting

And yes, it is quite likely that he is a mass murderer who is on the run so questions about dissolving bodies in acid bathes and other fun things like that could be quite a amusing, amazing the similarities between Tim and scampy

Another fine idea is that when you go to the url you are assigned a number, the guy running the place gets a name, but tim also only gets a number, so pretending to be tim is also quite amusing, don't forget to mention that you can't turn the cam on though, hopefully at 7am there should be a few "Tims" on there
