    Bargirl in the US

I didn't think it would happen, but my friend received a fiancee visa for this bargirl he met on a two week vacation. Me and my other mate tried everything we could to convince him not to go through with it, but he said he is in love, so who am I to judge?

The set up isn't too bad for her now. His mom and daughter still live with him so she is always with other people throughout the day. But, she can't stand the food in the US (don't blame her) and is getting really homesick. I don't think she was prepared for the shock of living in a foreign country.

Has anyone else brought their Thai wife to the West? How long did it take for them to adapt? Can he do anything to make her life easier?

She has been here for two weeks and doesn't speak that much English.

Money always is a factor, but I know she didn't marry him just for the money. He is 29 and she is 24 and they look good together.

She just seems a bit miserable at the moment. I thought there would be at least be a two month time period where everything was new and cool to her.

It is sad that the requirement to marry into money is classed as more important than actually being happy.

It looks as though she was expecting something quite different to what she found.

If she comes from a really tight nit family community, it's bound to be very difficult for her.
My sister in law is living in Boston at the moment and is relatively happy there, her English skills are very good and she is a fair bit older too, also she is only there in 3 month stints, possibly consoled by the fact that she will be coming back to somtam and sticky rice in the near future.
I imagine your friend's girlfriend isn't working, that can't be helping her self esteem any.

I feel glad that my wife has never expresed any interest to leave Thailand, I'm fairly sure it would be far too difficult for her to adapt.
My guess is that if she is unhappy now, she will continue to be unhappy.

He's got to get her active. Enroll her in the local community college for English. Search out any Thai people or places to buy Thai spices. If they aren't living out in the boondocks then it should be possible to find Thai people or Thai spices somewhere.

I think you're right and would have mentioned it. But, if she does that then sooner is better than later. She can be replaced easily enough.

My wife could live anywhere. She settled in Australia no worries but would love to try living in New Zealand. I'm sure at some stage we will end up back in Thailand.

If she takes off that easily, it is just a question of time anyway, innit?

In fact, the likelihood of a relationship crash seems pretty imminent either way.

I personally know a guy who is fairly well to do who was recently married to a Thai girl who I assume was a bargirl. This guy probably has a 6 figures + for an annual income. Believe it or not she traded him in just a few months ago for a guy who doesn't even make close to half of that.

Storekeepers got it. She's probably bored shitless stuck in the house with the mother in law always looking over her shoulder. Try some other classes as well art or such like. Get her some driving lessons so she feels a bit more independent.

I'd be interested in a rough idea of where they are living. What state ? Nearest large city ? I sure hope he ain't got her tucked into some shithole like Loudonville, Ohio ... I drove through there once and saw what I thought was a Filipina with some dorkie looking white boy and his loud mouthed toothless trailer trash mother. They were talking to the young lady like she was a dog.
