Is there anything your girl won't eat?

I sometimes get the notion with Thai girls that there's nothing living on the face of this planet that they wouldn't eat if they had half the chance. I was watching a documentary today about the antarctic with my girl, and we were watching penguins escape from a killer whale by swimming very fast in all directions. She said, "Mmmm, yark kin nok penguin. Aroi mai?"

The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.

Why did she ask 'Aroi Mai'? - Do you look like a killer whale?

Not really. I admit I am a striking black and white colour, I have a four foot dorsal fin, and 140 razor sharp teeth, but apart from that there is absolutely no resemblance.

If penguins were delicious Polar bears would eat them, well they would if it wasn't such a long journey

It's the Chinese who eat everything which moves, except bicycles and airplanes. They haven't found a way to cook these yet.

When we were in the UK i had to be really careful that she wasn't piking berries and eating them.

She kept seeing different coloured fruits/berries on trees and asking me if they were good to eat.

Go on love eat the rowen berries I am sure that you will enjoy them.

Oh yeah. Now you mention it, neither will 'er indoors. What is it with beef? A girl once told me beef and durian made her blood hot. Can any scientists on the forum explain this freakish phenomena?

My g/f is the same. She doesn't eat beef. Not a big deal for me, because I don't like beef either. She'll eat any other type of animal as long as it is prepared Thai style.

The only Indian food my g/f will eat is tandoori chicken and naan. She can't even stomach basmati rice.

Went to a nice Italian restaurant and she only had the salad with vinagrette(sp), a piece of garlic bread, and an orange sorbet for dessert. She tried some of my shrimp penne, but I don't think she liked the creamy texture of the alfredo sauce.

I don't think she is the exception, but the norm for most Thais I've met. IMO, Thais aren't generally the most cosmopolitan when it comes to trying cuisines from different cultures, even the ones that are raised in Bangkok. It is frustrating sometimes, because I like a lot of variety in the food I eat. Aside from British pub food and Southern US food, I'll eat almost anything.

Mine won't eat beef, its apparently out of respect to the buffalo who works hard for them, so its not nice to eat their relatives.

I heard there is a popular belief among Thais that the larger the animal, the less it should be eaten. When I told a friend of mine that in Scandinavia we eat moose, she thought that was terrible, because they are large animals.

Gow will eat anything that is not considered edible by civilised countries. She has an aversion to proper food though.

My missus would eat a shit sandwich without the bread, as long as I didn't tell her what it was.

The only thing my misses will refuse to eat is blue cheese. A lot of Thais consider it unlucky to eat large animals, I've also heard a lot of people complaint that lamb, goat, beef does'nt smell good.

I just gave a 600g pot of Marmite to one of the guys at work. It doesn't seem to agree with me anymore.

And you came to the conclusion that....? I once heard the same kinda story from an environmentalist who trained a bunch of shoolkids in southern Thailand (children of forest wildlife poachers) to "make peace with or identify with their brothers & sisters & cousins" of the forest. These kids became true guardians and protectors of the environment that their parents once pillaged.... there is hope yet!!!!!!!!
