    South Korea

    A brief comparison with Thailand.

As an opening statement, I'll say that it is easy to see why the West haters and most loser TEFLers don't like or don't get on in Korea. I'll tell you why I think so later

I haven't worked in South Korea, and have no intention of (although one uni and one company opportunity have been distantly waved in front of me) so two weeks living a normal lifestyle hanging out with longterm Korean friends rather than purely tourism activities will have to serve for comparison purposes.

Things that seem better than Thailand
    - The whole place feels fairly wealthy, with no stray dogs and beggars lying in the gutter, and average salaries for Koreans are, or at least seem many times that of the average Thai
    - The infrastructure is that of the developed world, with excellent safe and cheap public transport etc
    - It doesn't feel like living in one big tourist trap, and other Westerners are a rarity
    - The place has seasons, and spending all day outside pursuing strenuous sports is possible for most if not all of the year
    - The people are not afraid to show their feelings or speak their mind, hence they seem more "normal" and honest, and less 2 faced and comatozed.
    - Korean students aren't expected to financially repay their parents for their education, just offer them support in later life.
    - Upon marrying, men aren't expected to buy their future wife from her parents (or hand over his next five years whoring fund as proof as his intended fidelity, depending on whether you are cynical or extremely cynical of sin sot)
    - Bars are cheap and very fun (have had some great nights out here with groups of Koreans and foreigners, but drinking "charm" can cause hangovers!). None of this paying twice or three times the price rubbish in indoor aircon places
    - The countryside is green, clean, and mountainous, much like on the road from Kanchanaburi to Sangkhlaburi (apart from the clean bit!)
    - possible to sleep without year round climate control!

Things that aren't as good as Thailand
    - Quite a few months of cold (but usually sunny) weather
    - The women don't throw themselves at Westerners, so getting a girlfriend (or multiple girlfriends ) would actually take some effort here
    - The women aren't generally as noticeable
    - I don't imagine that watersports are as fun as in Thailand, for climatic reasons

At the end of the day, I have absolutely no reason to even consider coming to live here, simply because it is fairly similar to the UK, but with few advantages and a number of downsides (job restrictions, language etc).

This leads me to why the West haters and TEFLers don't like it here. Simply because it is too much like the West they hate and ran away from, plus they won't earn many times the average local salary (and be able to lord it over the locals) and like the West they are expected to put effort into working. Plus, no cheap whores as an entertainment base / marriage material.

I think the main reason I haven't been there is talking to a Korean NGO worker. He was a pleasant enough fella told me some fun things, but when asked what there was to do there, came up with not a lot. His hat summed it up well, bearing in mind it was an official Tourist Board of Korea one :

South Korea - We have some nice people.

Where as Thailand, and very close and easy travelling distance from Thailand are some major landmarks and points of interest. But what do I know ?

This is a classic set up. For me a no brainer.

    - The countryside is green, clean, and mountainous, unlike on the road from Bournemouth to London

    - The women don't throw themselves at Tossers not like the slappers in Bournemouth

You are welcome to disagree with my opinions, but up to you if you are unable to and yet hate to admit it.

    I like this from wikipedia
"In forums where most users are similar to each other, outsiders may be perceived as trolls simply because they do not fit into the social norms of that group. It can sometimes be difficult to distinguish between a user who merely has different values, views, or ideas, and a user who is intentionally trolling. This can lead to genuinely hostile behavior, including flame wars."

Watersports are always fun. Try them with some scaggs of mine at Eden. Drink plenty of pineapple juice beforehand though

Oh dear, its gonna be another thread for the nasty reject West haters hanging out in Thailand to get rid of some of the frustration that they aren't allowed to get rid of in public.

Never mind, at least I'm serving a purpose here

As an opening statement, I'll say that it is easy to see why the West haters (i'm not a west hater not sure y u think i am - i travel home 4-6 times a year - was there last w/e and my next holiday is to France. and most loser TEFLers not a TEFL'r either - in fact my knowledge of all that is rather limited - MUCH LIKE YOURS ACTUALLY don't like or don't get on in Korea. I'll tell you why I think so later - goan tell us ? koreans are more intelligent than thais and dont put up with farang attitudes? or what?

I haven't worked in South Korea, and have no intention of (although one uni and one company opportunity have been distantly waved in front of me) oh you're so fuckn good! - wot a bachelor graduate with about 1 years experince in about 7 different jobs - u da man - i'm gonna call on u! so two weeks living a normal lifestyle hanging out with longterm Korean friends rather than purely tourism activities will have to serve for comparison purposes. 2 weeks holiday in a country during the end of summer is hardly normal lifestyle - but we can let that one slide as its an honest mistake on ur behalf as opposed to the rest of ur daft fuckn comments!

Things that seem better than Thailand
    - The whole place feels fairly wealthy, with no stray dogs and beggars lying in the gutter, and average salaries for Koreans are, or at least seem many times that of the average Thai - Yes u hav a point here ... to a degree, try looking in the countryside - Korea has poor ppl too fuckwit
    - The infrastructure is that of the developed world, with excellent safe and cheap public transport etc - see comment above - hang on if we talk abt bangkok we got skytrain and subway (could be improved i know but still world class), mobile phones and systems to match, credit cards accpetd everywhere, shopping malls, mettered taxis, schools, some of the best hospitals in the world, etc -
    - It doesn't feel like living in one big tourist trap, and other Westerners are a rarity - ah depends where u go ! bkk is not just KSR adn sukhumvit, and in korea if u go Ichewon or any bars frequented by american GI's you'll see same sort of stuff.
    - The place has seasons, yes it does and spending all day outside pursuing strenuous sports is possible for most if not all of the year YOU ARE FUCKN JOKING NOW SURELY !? try less than half the year outside.
    - The people are not afraid to show their feelings or speak their mind, hence they seem more "normal" and honest, and less 2 faced and comatozed. u aint been there long enough - koreans can be very rude and ... fuck it just plain fuckn rude and ignorant and selfish and unhygenic and did i mention that they fuckn stink of garlic.

wait - some koreans are very nice ppl also - but the national sterotype is rude smelly and uncouth!

    - Korean students aren't expected to financially repay their parents for their education, just offer them support in later life. whateva - neither are all thai's more an Isaan thing that.- Upon marrying, men aren't expected to buy their future wife from her parents (or hand over his next five years whoring fund as proof as his intended fidelity, depending on whether you are cynical or extremely cynical of sin sot) again whateva - see comment above. but i didnt think this was an issue for u since u too busy fuckn 16 hotties waiting outside ur door and then killing them - but perhaps u wnated to marry one b4 she becane a corpse! or after - whateva pulls ur chain!

    - Bars are cheap and very fun -fuckn liar - they ARE NOT cheap! can be fun yeah. (have had some great nights out here with groups of Koreans and foreigners, but drinking "charm" can cause hangovers!). None of this paying twice or three times the price rubbish in indoor aircon places - hang on korea has HEATED places not aircon - and if u talkn open air bars - they not open all year round ( oh yes u only been there 2 weeks dumb knowitall twat. and also wanna try comparing apples with apples - plenty of small thai mom and pop drinking places - wont cost more than a purple note after a night of drinks between 6 blokes!

The countryside is green, clean, and mountainous, much like on the road from Kanchanaburi to Sangkhlaburi (apart from the clean bit!) some of it!

    - possible to sleep without year round climate control! hahahaha - see few comments above Korea gets cold - fuckn cold - alaskan cold ! no chance of no climate control - just ur button has to turn in the oppositte diurection.

Things that aren't as good as Thailand
    - 8-10 months of cold (but usually freezing cold sunny) weather
    - The women don't throw themselves at Westerners, so getting a girlfriend (or multiple girlfriends ) would actually take some effort here
    - The women are generally quite ugly and smell
    - I don't imagine that watersports are as fun as in Thailand, for climatic reasons - nah dont know what your on about here!?

Plus, no cheap whores - yes there are - but not really all that cheap - go look at all those hairdressign shops open late - they have a blue white and red sponning pole out the froint for dumb fucks like urself to recognize them.

Erm, no, I didn't claim to. I explained in the OP that it was a brief comparison based on two weeks experience, i.e. initial observations and opinions which most normal people reach in a similar way.
    Are you stupid?

And earlier in the thread I stated that I was at Kiemyung uni, which is in Daegu, not Seoul. If you knew anything about education in Korea you'd know that.

They are cheap for me. Sorry that you can't afford them. Draft beer is barely more than a pound a pint, and the food is often supplied with as many side dishes and refills as you can eat.

Guess what! I have friends who have spent nearly their whole life here, and websites with reliable climate stats, so it is possible for me to know how cold it is or isnt here without your ridiculing info.

Unlike you, I don't make a point of tracking down the local whore life when I arrive in a new country, so I'm not really interested in your info. I would have thought that was obvious.

Oh dear. CMN has proved to me many a time that he is an undesirable urchin hiding in Thailand. Now he has proved that he admires fools....

I often wonder how complete morons like the two above manage to stay alive from day to day. I guess staying in Thailand, a place where most of the population are just as stupid, helps!!!!!!
