I can't understand why the socio pathetic git rants lyrical about Bournemouth. Its the English capital of ladettes, scaggy heroin heads and chavs. The beaches are shit and there are too many old people. So why oh smeggy, doth thou wax lyrical about this hole?

Probably something to do with it offering a much much better standard of living to the general population than anywhere in Thailand, to do with it not having rats running around the gutters, roads clogged with stinking 40 year old buses full of lazy uneduated peasants, ignored stray dogs dying on the pavements, lies cheating and corruption as normality, filth, HIV everywhere, Western middle-aged drunken perverts losers and wankers everywhere, etc etc etc. But most of all, because I'm not the type of person who needs to run away forever to the modern day foreign legion (TEFLing in Thailand) to find happiness.

And if beach life in Thailand is so great, why are there so few bloody Thais on them?!

Bangkok is full of old people too (well, oldish, people on average die much younger in Thailand than in the UK), but they never go out coz its too hot and polluted, so unlike Bournemouth, you never see them.

Fair enough, but what exactly is the point of living in Bangkok, forever? If you are the sort of person who can only make a decent living because he can speak English, and has no other marketable "skills", then fair enough, but other than that, the place is an overcrowded 3rd world hole where 99.99% of the products and services are tailored for Thais or for tourists, and the Western dropout expat is obviously neither. No, I'm a normal person who isn't one of the tiny minority of Westerns who wears rose tinted specs and dumped his life forever because he is convinced that a 3rd world Asian country is superior to his own country.

I think you'll find that the average Thai living in a wooden shack on $150 per month doesn't find Thailand to be too exciting either. Of course, there is the odd weirdo Westerner who finds looking at these peasants thru the door of their shack sitting on the floor watching crap Thai soap operas every night as culturally exciting, or seeing ladyboys everywhere, or traffic jams, or whatever it is someone like you finds "exciting" about Bangkok.

Yes, Thai culture, and that famous proverb "thou shall not go enjoy the beach"

I feel very sorry for any Westerner who finds their own country to be boring, and failed and left because they didn't have the social or earning skills to make an interesting life.

it would be soul destroying, make you full of anger and hate, you would look around and see other people in a light that was very unattractive, very negative

WTF are you talking about? I wanted to rough it in 3rd world SE Asia for a couple of years. So what? Its been interesting. I've got a mate currently living in a kabutz type thing somewhere in the middle east, and another just finishing up working on a ranch in New Zealand. both very uncomfortable, but worth doing for a bit.

Why? I've met people from every corner of the planet there, and unlike Bangkok, which is 98% Thais, it is populated by only about 80% Brits.
