Vote-buying: Do Thai provincial peasants deserve a vote?

What is vote-buying? To me it seems like voting for the person who promises to help your life the most. Hell, isn't that what everyone does?

I'm not sure how the PAD leaders can insist that those educationally less fortunate than them are not entitled to a say in how the country is run. Have these members of the elite ever done anything to help the provincial poor, including improving educational standards?

Thaksin may have sought power to further his own wealth (no surprises, he is a Thai after all) but at least those who supported him got a tiny boost themselves. What is better, a corrupt leader who gives at least something back, or the elite who probably only have their own interests at heart.

Should corrupt rich people be allowed to vote?
Should Chinese moneylenders be allowed to vote?

    Dumb question.

The system is broken because of poor to no enforcement of existing laws. First place to start is to fix the police then you can try and fix the system. If you forget the bullshit and note what these scum actually do, the first thing Samak did when he came to power was to fire the reform minded chief of police.

Yes, they should be allowed to vote.

What they need is education in the consequences of misusing that vote.

Sadly they've never been given much of an example of what a decent vote for a decent candidate could bring.

    Cos there ain't none.

Who is that decides whether they should be allowed to vote or not anyway? What's their mandate?

Exactly. Until there is a system in place in every country that somehow expels curruption, there much hope for fairness.

Bush was put in place by global corporations, not the people. Look at his history before becoming president.

I agree, the people of the US should not be given a vote, instead the members of the EU should vote for who gets to be president.

We don't care who you vote in as your leaders because they don't matter much.

China, Russia, US are the players.

The rest are just rinky-dink bystanders hoping to benefit in some way from their alliances with the players.

    Who cares about Thailand?

Excellent post, smeg. naught much to add to that other than democratic means is the only way to further democracy .... there is no such thing as a coup being better means to the end.

You misunderstood, The people of France, Germany, UK and the rest of the EU should vote for who becomes president in the US, it seems the general public in the US are unable to make informed decisions themselves so maybe we should remove that resposibility for them.

I understood perfectly. You vote for your village leaders, we vote for the most powerful person on the planet.

Our votes are meaningful. Yours aren't. BTW, I didn't start this slag.

Yeah. AC-130 gunships, F-16 Fighting Falcons, A-10 Warthogs ... they're all over the place.

Luckily the US convinced 36 coalition nations to follow us in the good fight.
We can't all be leaders. (Jeez, Don't you have your own intelligence?)

Which makes your lot look even more foolish.

Certainly your superior intelligence knew the FACTS but blindly followed the player into the ring. Doesn't matter much anyway, as soon as the fists started flying you were outta there like a scalded dog.
