    American 'Bigfoot' is monkey suit

    American 'Bigfoot' is monkey suit

The claimed recent discovery of Bigfoot in the US state of Georgia has turned out to be a hoax - it was a rubber gorilla suit in a block of ice.
Two men said last week they had found a 2.3m-tall (7ft 7in), 226kg (500lb) corpse of the legendary ape-like creature in a wood in June.
Two researchers bought the "carcass", encased in ice, for an undisclosed sum.
But as it thawed it turned out to be a rubber monkey outfit. Bigfoot has been the subject of decades of hoaxes.
Matt Whitton, a police officer, and Rick Dyer, a former prison officer, told a new conference in California last week that they had made the find while hiking.
    'Dinosaurs'
A photograph on the men's website showed what appeared to be a large, hairy creature.
But Bigfoot experts reacted suspiciously to the men's claims and the story soon began to unravel.

    BIGFOOT BASICS
First documented report was prints found by Canadian trader in 1811
Name dates from 1958 reports of giant footprints found in California
Ray Wallace, who died in 2002, claimed to have faked these
Most famous footage shot in 1967 and contested ever since

Steve Kulls - of squatchdetective.com - observed the thawing and said that as the ice melted, the exposed head was found to be "unusually hollow in one small section".
As the process continued the feet were exposed - and were found to be made of rubber.
AP news agency reported that telephone calls to Mr Whitton and Mr Dyer were not returned on Tuesday.
But the voicemail recording for their Bigfoot Tip Line - which proclaims they also search for leprechauns and the Loch Ness monster - has been updated. It announced the duo were also looking for "big cats and dinosaurs".
BBC NEWS | Americas | American 'Bigfoot' is monkey suit

Do you think that that these 'creatures' could really be real or have existed?

Are Nessie, The Beast of Bognor, Bigfoot and UFO's possibly real?

Will the people who have paid for the suit get a refund?

I thought this was another hoax right from the start. While the scientists or whoever were "investigating" to see if the carcass was real, the media made reports about it. It's a yawner.

The fact that people believe it at all is what gets me. The reports of Bigfoot have been going on for years. There must be enough of them to reproduce. So one would think that they would be seen at least once in a while or the odd corpse found.

On the history channel they are running a Monster series, one was about BigFoot or Sasquat as the Canadians call it, Quite an interesting episode, factual without being theatrical !!
Some guy had his shed wrecked in a remote part of Canada, so he set a trap outside his shed door comprising of a board a metre square studded with large screws and nails, he returned to find the board coated with blood, skin and hair.
The investigation team visited the site and recovered the board and samples of the material although they were by now weather beaten, they measured the footprint based on the stain and found it to be around 18 inches! long,
They managed to obtain some DNA from the skin etc and on analysis it was neither Human nor Ape, somewhere in between, research on the samples is on going! If you can catch a repeat of the programme it,s worth a watch,

"Have there been any recent significant discoveries?

Short: “On Nov. 7, the History Channel reported that a DNA sample from a Sasquatch has been analyzed from a board of sharp, threaded, protruding screws placed in front of a cabin in remote Canada. Dr. Curt Nelson, senior scientist and biologist from the University of Minnesota, and anthropologist Dr. Jeff Meldrum from the University of Idaho found a bloody footprint and collected hair, small portions of foot tissue and blood from the bottom of the foot from the ‘screw board’ for DNA sequencing.

“The hair sample looked human, but human hair has a medulla, a spongy mass of material in the center of the hair’s core. According to the program, the hair sample matched no known primate and nothing living known to science, certainly not bear. The DNA from the tissue found on the bloody screws was identical to human DNA, except it had one nucleotide polymorphism. The nucleotide that was different, was one shared with chimpanzees. It was primate DNA. They knew they were looking at the DNA structure of a sasquatch. The DNA said ‘primate’ but not quite human and not-quite nonhuman primate … just one of the base pairs is deviated from ours! Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t that pretty much cinch the case for Sasquatches being classified in the genus Homo, probably with little difference from us?”

This was all from an article on bigfootencounters that I think we are all familliar with. What do you guys think of this one?

    Paul
Sasquatch DNA found claims History Channel - NESRA

NESRA = North East Sasquatch Research Association

My understanding is the DNA they found turned out to be bovine.
Either the mitochondrial testing was completely botched or someone slapped a steak on the screwboard, IMO...

Does this really look real to anyboody??

Big foot, UFOs and socialist democracies. All myths in which there is no credible evidence any of them have ever existed.

But, "a sucker is born every minute" and shows about bigfoot on the history channel probably pull in better ratings than shows based on actual factual evidence.

Well, last year they discovered a new mammal in the jungles of borneo... the size of a cat

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | 'New mammal' seen in Borneo woods

Recently some new species of fish were discoverd in the Pacific trench...

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Discovery of a new fish species

Both places are very remote, the new species found were both relatively small.....

I absolutely do not see how a bigfoot or a loch ness monster could 'hide' for all these years.

and didnt they admit that the loch ness monster was a hoax anyway...?

It's just tourism authorities from countries that have really crap things to do, trying to make thier place a little more interesting.

I saw another discovery program. The "X" squad or something. They got a load of people who claimed to have seen big foot to show them a site that was supposed to be famous for siteings. At the same time they had an actor in a very convincing big foot suit run across the fields and into the trees. All the people brought onto the show were stunned and really belived that they'd seen it again!

Will likely be a lot more things discovered when deep sea exploration technology is advanced. If we are finding new species in Borneo, just think how many more strange and perhaps believed to be extinct species will be found in the sea, a realm we have barely explored.

Silly isn't it? WMDs in Iraq. How ridiculous!

Mapped yes using sonar and the like. Explored, I think very little in the biological sense.
