Do you ever judge a people by the way they treat their animals?

I do. That's why I dislike the Chinese. No, this isn't another Olympic topic, it's about food and how the Chinese treat what they eat before they eat it.

No tree huger here, no activist either. But I was sickened by what I saw in China. Like the 40-pound sea turtle paddling away in that tank facing the sea where he hadn't the room to turn himself around. At 40 pounds I'd venture a guess he had been there for a long while and was to be there for a long while more. How often does a customer ask for forty pounds of turtle meat (minus the shell of course)?

Poultry is kept alive right there in front of restaurants, so are fish. Proverbial sardines in a tin. Can't even spread their wings, or no room to swim.

You already know they eat dogs. Well, that's not so bad. What is bad is that they are tied to a post on a very short leash and beaten for days as a means to get their adrenaline up so when they're eaten those lil Chinese willies will get up as well. Dog meat is an aphrodisiac - to them.

(Extra) Just have to be the most filthy people on Earth. They can't touch food with their hands. So if you're eating pig or fish and get a gristle or bone it's spit onto the floor or the table. People peel off the fat with their chopsticks and drop it on the floor or table. In many a restaurant you sit at a table with fairly good sized mounds of shit all around you, and step in it on your way in or out.

(More Extra) Restrooms can be smelled for 20 yards as you approach them, that bitter ammonia gas ripping into your nose. People shit and piss in public places. and babies have no diapers. What they have is a slit in the front of their trousers. What the parents do is hold them out in front at arm's length and just let it fly, or let in fall or let it squirt. In a MacDonalds in a shopping mall I was on my way in when the door slung open as if their was an emergency. The woman hold the kid out and he shits right there on the threshold. There is a rest room on the second floor.

Yeah, I know it's worse in India and elsewhere. I don't want to go there either.

Well there CT, seems like you are in Thailand and what is so much different about the way that they do things here and the super sanitary way that food is handled and cared for and the sewer free smells as you walk down the street??

The PRC is a mind-blowing place.

Recognizing hygiene problems and the maltreatment of animals is a long way from hating/disliking all Chinese.

But I have never believed cleanliness was next to godliness.

Camel Toe - I like China, but I do sympathize with your cause. When I visit China my initial thought after about an hour is, 'Ah yeah, confirmation that we are all animals aren't we' - which we are. The Chinese are dirty and smelly and completely indifferent to the suffering of animals, which is why it is not hidden from public view like it is in the west where the most barbaric cruelty happens in warehouses and factory farms but we simply don't see it as we have been conditioned in a different way.

Blackgang aslo has a valid point.
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

    thailand:

dogs beaten to death with a stick for the pot
    fish unceremoniously barbecued alive
bats dumped live into boiling water
frogs having their legs dislocated so they can't escape
lizards hung from a stick, a string tied tightly around their bodies, just in front of their rear legs, hanging for days until they are sold for the pot
    turtles barbecued alive
wild animals and birds, kept starving in the tiniest of cages hung from trees.
owls having their feathers plucked, while alive and shrieking, before being boiled alive.
pigs being slaughtered with a breadknife tied to a stick, screaming the full 10 minutes or so it took to die.
i have witnessed most of the above, myself.
yes, and i have seen kids pissing and shitting in restaurants, too!

Warning; If you like dogs even a tiny little bit you do not want to watch this video of a dog being killed and prepared for dinner, extremely graphic.

DD, I tried but I couldn't do it.

Yes, we all know how cruel the World is. I eat meat every day but if I were to see the entire process from piglethood to the plate I'd have to pass.

And then maybe Stevie Wonder was on to something with his lyrics on The Life of Plants album. I'd have to pass on veggies too. Looks like it's us or them, eh?

Not quite, Thailand isn't the Congo circa 1850.

It is the most dangerous destination for British holidaymakers though.

must be just the Brits then

Newsland has published the list of the most dangerous vacation spots in 2007. The first place is occupied with Afghanistan - travelers are risking to meet talibs, can be taken prisoner or become hostages of terrorists. The probability to be killed from a bullet of the security guard of an opium field (from third up to two thirds of world deliveries of heroin arrives from Afghanistan) is quite high. Besides in the Afghani ground the huge quantity of not mine cleared bombs and not broken off artillery shells lays. Regarding Afghanistan as tourist direction, the experts give it the highest level of danger.
The second on danger to the traveler goes to the state Somalia. Coastal waters of this country are famous for the pirates, using modern boats with the weapon onboard to plunder yachts and even trading vessels. Besides, civil war in Somali and inter clan skirmishes, in which peace people travelers, and journalists perish, are frequent. Soldiers of civil army periodically kidnap people with the purpose of the repayment or simply plunder them. The level of danger of travel to Somalia is named as extremely high.
The third place is given to Iraq. In this country of tourists the terrorists are killing
etc etc Thailand is in tenth place

US magazine Forbes has published the yearly rating of the most dangerous countries for tourism and work in 2006. This list consists of 14 countries. The countries were selected according to the following criteria ?? from political and terrorist risks to the possibility of a civil war or the level of criminality and legal bodies activity. Nine out of fourteen countries got the maximum of five points. Six of them are from the African continent (Somali, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Cote-d??Ivoire, Congo and Liberia) plus Afghanistan, Iraq and Haiti. These countries are characterized by ???despotic governing, low educational level and low price of life???. Russia, Burundi, Papua-New Guinea and Pakistan rank second with four points. As regards Georgia, which comes last in the list, the magazine draws tourists?? attention to the unstable political situation in the country and frequent attacks.

i don't particularly like china chinese in general but then again i have met some very nice ones. i hope to meet some more when i go to Zhuhai next week.

and from what I can see the majority of Singaporean Chinese are animal lovers. I think its all about education.

This seems to suggest otherwise as well, stating traffic accidents are the most likely cause of death

    10. Thailand

One of the most beautiful countries in the world, teeming with life, culture.. and crazy drivers. Little danger here of being murdered or kidnapped; most of the population are Buddhist, but once you have experienced travel on the open road here, nothing else will seem quite as scary again. Vehicles travel nominally on the left, but that doesn’t stop the 12 million motorbikes (68% of all registered vehicles) driving where they please on the road, and they don’t pay much attention to red lights or crossing pedestrians. Over 17,000 people are killed each year due to traffic accidents, mainly motorcycle related, and riding drunk, speeding, and illegally not wearing helmets is common. Terrorist acts are on the increase here too; terrorists travelling into the country are a reminder of the darker side of “extreme tourism”.
Our travel tip: Simple Avoid ladyboys.
    Dangers
Traffic, Over 30,000 are injured every week
    Sex crimes
    Muggings and theft
    Travel risk: Medium
source: Used car sales in Norfolk, used cars in Norwich Norfolk, car dealer Norwich used car sales dealers
