Drug agency poised to bust foreign gangs

The anti-drug agency and police are gearing up to dismantle foreign-organised crime syndicates which have been controlling the trade in illicit drugs at some of Thailand's famous tourist destinations for years. Krissana Pol-anand, the secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), said ONCB officials and drug suppression police were very concerned about the drug trade run by foreign businessmen in Phuket, Koh Samui and Pattaya.

''The drug trade run by foreign businessmen has been increasing in these areas. We're collecting evidence in order to bring these people to justice as soon as possible,'' said Pol Lt-Gen Krissana.
The ONCB yesterday held a press conference to announce its new drugs suppression policy.
Pol Lt-Gen Krissana had been transferred to an inactive post at Government House by the coup-appointed government of former prime minister Gen Surayud Chulanont. He was re-appointed as chief of the ONCB by the Samak administration a few months ago.

He said the ONCB and the police were combining forces to keep a close watch on foreign drug traders. He claimed the authorities already had a list of people involved in the illicit business.
He said foreign drug dealers, especially Africans, had run their businesses in the country's tourist destinations for years. Some opened a business office in town as a front to conceal their illegal activities from authorities, while others travelled back and forth between their countries and Thailand.

Pol Lt-Gen Krissana also expressed concern over the growing number of Thai women being deceived into marrying foreigners and being used by foreign drug dealers as couriers.
Many had been used as drug couriers, he said. Over the past two years, 82 Thai women had been arrested in China and Australia after carrying heroin from India and Pakistan via Thailand.
''I don't want Thai women to think that marrying foreigners will make their lives better because sometimes they are lured into the drug trade,'' he said.

He said the Interior Ministry had been asked to help in a campaign to educate women in rural areas about these foreign drug dealers' ploys.

He said he had instructed officials to step up suppression of the drugs trade in 22 border districts in nine provinces over the past two months. Officers had found information that large amounts of methamphetamines would flood into the country during this period.

erm if he had just a tiny little bit of proof over the years I am sure that if they didn't pay the police they would have been arrested.

Here is why I am angry. For one, if any ADULT Thai woman marries a man either Thai or farang, and becomes involved in drug dealing, then she is at fault all on her own. Not lured or tricked.

This Krissana is lumping us all into one bag. Like there are no Thai dope dealers. I know one husband / wife dope dealing team that is facing 50 years in prison. They have left two small children with no parents to raise them. It is BOTH their faults. The Thai woman liked the revenue from the yaba sales.

This guy acts like Thai women are dumb and can be tricked into dope smuggling. If I asked my wife to deal dope she would leave.

Thais blame the evil farang for everything. A women get s trafficked to a foreighn country and its the farangs fault. No Thais were ever involved and of course she was forced to go

Prostitution - farangs fault. Thai men never pay for sex.

Teen murders taxi driver - video games fault. Surprised they did not say an evil foreigner programed the game.

Farangs are to blame for child prostitution - no Thai man was ever peddling the children or no Thai parent sold their kid for a few satang.

Thai teens have giks and are promiscuous - Its MTV's fault. The Thais did not learn it from their Thai dad who had 6 girlfriends and 3 wives.

Thais are getting fat - its that foreigner fast food like McDonalds!! Not the fried buttery roti, Thai sweets, Chineese bread, or 6 bowls of noodles that Somchai downs each afternoon.

I would like to meet Mrs Krisanna and ask her who makes the decisions and wears the pants in her family particularly and with regard to any decision that involves money.

Thai woman control society here (and without doubt IMO) and at the grass roots level and for this prat to come out and say that he needs to create laws to protect them from being naive and stupid is a feking joke.

O.k sorry i'd had a couple, they didn't actually say ferrang in the article they said foerigner. It was another poster said ferrang and i'd gotten them mixed up. Appart form that whta else was "utter toss?"

I still wouldn't get offened by the crack down of any drug dealer in thailand whether they be ferrang or thai. If there's one drug problem being created by a certain group of foerigner and they're making effort to deal with it (or making out to be making an effort) it doesn't mean that they don't try to deal with the other problems.

This is about Foerign Drug Organisations, loose the chip for a moment about every thing else.

These are just examples of how commercialism affects a country and this is inevitable for all asian countries.

I'm not trying to say that to some Thais we are all tared with the same brush because we are. But there seems to be a large consensus at the moment that they all hate us, which they don't.

I really hate drugs and druggies and I think most Thais hate them too. I'm especially afraid of those Africans and Russians in Pattaya. The Irish scare me too.
