i have been back in south africa for a while now, but still have contact with the thai community; still get the opportunity to converse in thai and still get to see and hear things that make me wonder wtf goes through their heads.
a while back, i overheard the thai wives of two of my friends, (one a thai male of around 48 years old, and the other, a farang of around 63 years old)
it went something like this:
tw1: "does your husband still demand sex at his age?" (to wife of 62year old farang)
tw2: "yes, i would have thought he would have had enough of it by now"
tw1: i have tried to explain to my (thai) husband that after we stop menstruating, we no longer have to perform, but he still wants it every morning" (this thai woman is in her early forties, and i doubt she has hit the menopause yet, so i guess she is just taking a chance)
tw2: :"i still menstruate, but i have been trying to wean him off it- surely at his age it is not normal to be so horny?"
tw1:"i heard that a farang male can still keep it up until after the age of 80!
what is WRONG with these people?"
tw2:" i don't think i will be able to keep going that long. what about my husband- he is thai- does it mean i will still have to give him sex for another 35 years?"

i got distracted and never heard the end of the conversation, but what i heard scared the hell out of me.
i have an addiction to thai women, and have always thought that i would probably marry another on at some stage.
if this is their attitude to sex when they get older, though, i may have second thoughts......
is this possibly the reason that (so i have heard), thai males would not normally consider marrying a woman of over 35 years old?
what the hell is wrong with women?- i mean, so menopause decreases the sex-drive and dries them up, somewhat, but:
after all a farang man normally does for his wife, can she not spare 20 minutes or so of her time per day, just to keep him happy?
the "i'm not in the mood tonight" excuse, as far as i am concerned, is grounds for divorce!!
i know many menopausal farang women who still enjoy a normal, active sex life ( with the help of some ky jelly or such), and i hope what i overheard is not the norm for thai women.
do they really think that sex is just a duty- something they must perform for their husbands?
i can understand these girls boring of an inept husband/boyfriend after a few years, but it was their choice to stay with the guy, and most men spend much longer than 20 minutes per day, working to keep the wife happy. can she not do the same for the poor bastard?
i met many thai women who really enjoyed good sex, and i hope that my perception is wrong, or i will have to start looking for stuff that hasn't been born yet!

Lets look at Thai law for a second, if you are a Thai male married to a Thai woman and everyday you get 3 different ladies to give you a blow job that is not accepted as grounds for divorce, if you catch your Thai wife with your neighbour whilst performing oral sex on each other that is grounds for divorce.

Has it ever crossed any of your minds that perhaps a woman doesn't want sex with her husband because she doesn't fancy him or because he's no bloody good at it? If they're not having fun, does that really make them dried up? Or does it just make their husbands crap in bed? I can't imagine any woman complaining about having to do something they enjoy, can you? So, the question then must come down to 'whose fault is it that they don't enjoy it'?

As I read the OP, I was thinking exactly what November Rain said. The Thai guy certainly won't be trying to satisfy the wife while the other guy is probably too old to bother.

To answer the question, though, I have read that among "regular" Thai women, they view their role in a marriage as taking care of the children and husband until the children are grown. After that, a point that may coincide with menopause, their duty is done and sex is no longer a regular part of the equation.

Thus the concept of the mia noi. The major wife, I always forget the thai word, tolerates / accepts/ encourages the husband to take a minor wife as long as two things do not occur: 1) the mia noi jeopardizes the family's financial standing or 2) the mia noi causes the major wife to lose face by being seen with the husband in places she shouldn't be.

It's one reason why so many big black town cars with Bangkok license plates are seen outside apartment buildings in Korat on the weekends and holidays. What you don't see can't hurt you.

Really, though, I don't think Thai women are that different from any other woman. I think most women over 40 or 50 have much less interest in regular sex with their husbands.

Why bang the same poor old girl every day when there is so much young fluff to choose from in Thailand. He would actually be doing her a favour if she finds such frequent sex with hubby distasteful. Maybe give her one every now and again when she is in the mood, just to keep her happy. Now thats what I call being thoughtful and considering your partners feelings.

Good points, but you missed something: Among Thai women over thirty, you would have to toast them over hot coals to admit that they enjoyed sex. It's a cultural thing, a married Thai women who admitted to enjoying sex would be viewed by her peers as something of a whore. Of course, this doesn't mean that they don't enjoy it, or that there husbands may or may not be inadequate. Just that you really have to view these things thru the prism of Thai culture.

i would not enjoy a sexless relationship, but i would not go as far as to crap in the bed!!!

it is a medical fact that women undergo hormonal changes during menopause, which could affect their sex-drive, and cause vaginal dryness, but there are ways to get around ithe dryness. my point was that , in my friends' cases, these guys work long hours to bring in the money to support their wives.-
neither of them like their jobs, and i am sure they are not always in the mood to go to work, so why can their wives not spare a few minutes (or seconds) of their time, making HIM happy, too?
