Thread: What Was the Worst Accident You've Ever Seen?

What was the worst car or motocycle or road accident you've ever seen personally with your own eyes?

I don't wish to be morbid.

What happened? How fast were the participants going? Injuries? Deaths? Location? What did you do, if anything?

I was run over changing a tire on the hard shoulder of the m6 near Birmingham. The guy that hit me was doing around 100 kmph but it didn't knock me out. The sight of your own bones sticking out your body and your legs facing in the wrong direction is the worst! It didn't really hurt too much because I was in shock. One of my mates flagged down an Alied carpet van after he'd puked at the sight of me and they covered me in carpet to keep me warm and I think so that no one had to see me.

Me and a friend were once first to the scene of a car having been hit by a train at a level crossing. We jumped out of the car and started running down the tracks to where the wreck was; the train had shunted it about 50m.

About 10m away we both stopped, was obvious there was no point even going to check on the guy. He and the car were mangled beyond recognition.

On the way back from a teachers night away this last week. I saw a truck that was fully laden with stones had rammed into the back of another similar trucj fully laden with stones.

The cab was buckled and flat. The driver was pushed by the wheel right to the back of his seat. As in the wheel was pretty much at his spine.
He was most definitely dead as was his passenger.

Before leaving Thailand we came across a Tuk-tuk that had hit a motorbile. dragged one passenger under the tuk-tuk up and on the central reservation. Pinned another person against a tree in the central reservation. Another man was smeared along the road. and yet another man was under his upside down motorbike.

All looking dead.

A few years back in Sunderland one of the new lowrider buses had a power sruge at the bus stop. Ran over the queue of people. One boy was underneath but alive. Busdriver turned the bus off and the bus automatically sank down crushing the boy.

In Tokyo Japan came upon an accident. A motorcyclist took a turn too shallow and nearly smashed into a concrete cement post immediately next to the road. He would have made it if not for the steel footpeg utility workers use to climb up the pole -- neck level. Took his head 95% off his shoulders.

it's surprising living here for a long time and being out on the roads every day that I have never seen a major accident at all.

a few litle bumps, but nothing major.

Saw a good un down Thepprasit rd about 30 mins ago, a black Fortuner hit another in the side, both write offs, well trashed they were but the best bit is that the Black fortuner must have spun into a parked Merc S 500 brabus, taking the side out of that, hope whoever caused the accident has good insurance.

My years in construction and on the hyways of the world have left lots of gory memories that I do not care to remember, like 2 spread oilers had finished their lunch downtime greasing and went in between a set of 50 Ton tandem sheep foot rollers out of the wind to eat their lunch on a dam job,
Cat skinner didn't know they were in there so he jumps on his D-8 and went off to work, by the time he looked back the drums had made 3 or 4 revs and the guys cloths, hard hats and lunch buckets were mashed tight on the drum.. took hours with putty knives to peel em off.

Seriously, i do not understand a word of that

this was a few years ago but i was behind a tuk tuk at victory monument that lost its balance with some poor tourist who got his brains splattered over the road from that day on i have never taken a tuk tuk i'd rather walk

Not quite, Sheep foot compactors are large round drums with stems stick out 12 or so inches that do resemble sheep feet and lower legs, the drums are anywhere from 4 to 7 feet in dia. and up to 15 feet in length, and are hooked in sets and in tandem, and when filled with weight material [calcium Chloride] and water it makes the drums very heavy, the mixture of calcium Chloride and water makes water gain up to 10 times it's weight, so 1 gallon of the mixture can weigh 80 pounds. so these are towed behind a Caterpillar machine and they compact the soil on roadways and any earth fill.

I saw a Cortina out of the corner of my eye go up the armco and spin (like that James Bond bridge jump). His luggage flew out the boot, but then I was past. This was on the M1.

A Fuckwit spread himself all over the road when I was in a taxi coming back from Don Muang once, but I didn't bother getting out to have a look.

Never seen any gory stuff.

Was working on an opencast coal site in south Wales one bitter winter morning and from the site hut we saw some wisps of smoke coming from the ground where a D 8 was working.
As there was a lot if iron pyrites around which can spontaiously ignite this was a common thing so we grabbed a couple of buckets of water and went down to deal with it.
Not a fire at all but steam from the remains of the banksman who had just been run over by the D8 - messy business.

The other was in Sudan
A big old Russian helicopter delivered a generator to our site for me to install.
As he wound up the power to take off the tail rotor came off and ploughed into a group of locals who had come to watch.
6 poor bastards and a cow were reduced into component parts in a couple of seconds.

On Sukhumvit and when they were building the sky train leading to the Onnut junction.

Dropped a concrete slab onto a taxi. Thankfully it happened in the wee hours with not too much traffic on the road.

Taxi as flat as a pancake and the poor bloke inside would not have known what had hit him.

The farang supervisor was apparently in a nearby bar drinking.

Too many others and to mention and in LOS and those I prefer to wipe from my memory.

Yes those are small sheep foot compactors..pobly 5 ton, you can imagine what 50 ton would be
