Thread: Internet providers in Thailand - problem

I want a fast connection in the house I recently moved into but I'm having to use 'Ji-speed' dial up due to the following...

TOT - they are the existing line in the house but they refuse to switch back on for fast internet unless I can find the previous tenant to come and sign something at the TOT office and provide a copy of their ID card.... that's proving impossible so far... (TOT provided ADSL previously there so they would be the obvious option if it wasn't for the red tape..)

TT&T - they seem to have the best deal... 2Mb connection at only 590 baht per month.. They say our Street is 'full' already or 'isn't connected' depending on who I listen to there... I got Speccy Brace Face to plead with them and offer a bribe - this resulted in 2 dodgy engineers turning up at the house wanting 15000 baht to run some cable... told them to sod off.

UBC / True - got the telly package already so thought it would be easy to get the internet pack set up... According to the interpretation from SBF after going to their office, they only give internet if you have a True Move phone package and you get it through using your mobile?...(I don't quite believe this one...)


That only leaves 'Banglamung Cable' who I haven't tried yet... They want 8000 baht to set up but seeing the quality of the cable TV broadcast, I'm not too confident that they could supply good internet.... Might try them out of desperation if nothing else is suggested here....

So... what do you reckon?... What other providers are there and who do you use?

Maybe I should go back to living in hotels, getting rat-arsed and shagging different specimens every night.... It all seemed so much easier then...

In all seriousness I wish I could offer you some decent advice but I'm at a loss. We've had nothing but troubles with our internet hook-up since day 1.

If you have telephone service with TRUE, then you can get high speed. I don't have a mobile with them and I got it. Get the 2900 baht business package as the residential service is crap.

If they refuse to give you service, jut tell them you are not leaving their office unlit someone talks to you that has brains.

Tell them they have to close sometime and you are not leaving so they won't be able to go home fro gin kao and beer unless you get some service. Sit down, and start reading a book that you brought with you. Before you get through the 1st page of your book, someone will take care of your problem. Experience talking!!

What about CSLoxinfo? Can you get them in your area?

I use a GPRS modem. Two guys peddling clapped out, rusty bicycles at the end of the soi powering a line with two coconut shells at either end. I take the husk from the shell on my end and insert into the USB port.

Just curious about that. You have TRUE (right?) and I would think its available in your area.

They are supposed to be the best out of all, so why don't you use them then Marmite?

Firstly, that 590 baht package is rubbish, dont bother. The best package tt&T do costs 1090 baht plus vat plus the 107 baht per month for the phone line and is called "premier 2048/1024"
I had this nonsense recently of being told that there was no capacity, no phone lines / no "connection" I have the thai owner of the building ask 1 day later and waddaya know, phone line and interent was installed 5 days later.
In your case what you need is the owner of the house to do this thing for you. get the owner to say the previous tennant is gone and get him to handle the negotiation for the services.

I don't get that bit.
Every time I have signed up they have refused to accept an application from the tenant. It must be from the landlord.
Try getting the landlord to apply with you

Just checked out the Loxinfo website... They can't provide ADSL connection on my number but can provide satellite internet.... Fookin' rip-off prices though....




If I can't get what I need from the Landlord (or previous tenant) in order to get TOT switched back on in th house I will try Banglamung Cable... Somebody tells me they are not too bad... Installation at 7500 Baht (including modem), monthly fees at 1590 Baht for 2 Meg.

I'll get there in the end...

Why don't you try TRUE if you already got telephone with them?

I have UBC/True TV.. apparently you need to have a True Move package for your mobile .. I have been told that True internet is just plain GPRS through mobile phone.... they don't do it through the satellite dish...

I understand you just need a TRUE mobile but the internet itself can be via the landline too, at least it seems that's what my missus is doing.

^Oh... My landline is with TOT but still in the previous tenants name.... I was told by TOT I need to get previous tenant to sign some form and provide copy of ID card before they could switch me on for ADSL... Will try and get the Landlord to sort it..

I'd look into the Banglamung option a bit deeper. 7,500 baht for installation sounds pricey, plus unless theyve set up their own ISP they'll be reselling someone elses service like TOT, True, TT&T etc.

It's a cable company so I would guess they provide internet via tv cable?

As in Co-Ax cable like proper broadband? never heard anyone using that here its all phone line ADSL AFAIK

I have given Speccy Boy Fat instructions today to start hassling the landlady so we can go the TOT route....

One step at a time... If she fails in her mission I will order the Banglamung Cable tinternet when I get back onshore...
