Percussionists should be ridiculed just like DJs

If you couldn't be arsed to learn the drums but were too skint to buy new music and records, hey presto! The next best thing would be to become a percussionist, grow your hair and grow a goatee, get some tattoos and then annoy people by adding the same tom-tom rhythms over every song you play alongside.

I have been DJ-ing playing at house music nights and have on three occasions been accompanied by a percussionist.

Bang bang slap slap bang bang bang - oh, I'll just run my drumstick through some glittery dangling things....... bang bang slap slap (sounds like a lot of people putting up shelves)

I just kept my headphones on throughout.

I used to play cowbell in a band called The Ringtones.
We played cover tunes of all major cell phone music between 1998 and 2002.
That band was nothing without me, I meant it. NOTHING.

Sorry DJ. There's a fundamental difference between making music and playing recordings.

older people can't seem to grasp that a compident DJ uses turntables as an musical instrument. If it was as easy as pushing a button then everyone would be earning the thousands per gig that a dj does.

Is a piece of music made using computer programmes any less musical than something played on instruments?

I give up flash. There is a difference between an night where the DJ knows what he's doing and a guy who isn't a DJ just playing CDs.

It's like saying you can write books even without hands and fingers.

One day you'll organise a party and decide not to pay a DJ, "because it's so easy and anyone can do it" and hopefully you'll decide to do it yourself using your MP3 and i-Pod. Then you'll see what a pain in the f**king ass it is.

No need to respond to such an absurd whatever but I will.

As a person who has spent quite a few years learning to play musical instruments and particular percussion instruments such as the drums, timbales, congos and others what a load of garbage.

If our Pat has ever had the priveldge to be present in a real recording studio he will note that the musicians who lay down the heart of the final composition being the drummer, the base player and finally the rhythm guitarists get in and out before the other wankers such as the vocalists and fancy pants lead men contribute.

When Pat spins a disc what people hear and get down to is the drum beat and the bass. The heart and soul of any musical offering!

Then why would you make such an outlandish statement?

Musicians appreciate each other normally and you must be the equivalent to DJPat and in the talent department.
