    Marriage to a Thai

I have two friends married to Thai birds. Both of them say that they rank about 5th in her life priorities.

If Iam ever unfortunate enough to fall for one of these local types, I imagine that I'll ask her to sign a contract stating "We are marrying, will be living together for the rest of our lives and raising a family, and I promise that you ARE more important to me than my parents and siblings, and I will not put them before you."

    Their priorities are:

    1. Money
    2. Family
    3. Mobile phone
    4. Face
    5. If you're lucky, it may be you.

    1. Family
    2. Religion
    3. Money and face (they go very often together...).

As for you, simple, you just have to make sure you're part of No1...

And if she has the audacity to demand that disgusting wedding ritual of spreading 1000 Baht notes all over a table-top to prove how much I "love" her, well I won't know if to laugh or leave.

And I forgot religion in my top 5.

Oh well, she doesn't really give a damn about you then.

Clearly, if you come fifth on her list of priorities then you are with the wrong woman.

End of fucking story and a gross and totally typical Smeg generalisation.

The sin sot has nothing to do with proving that you love her or not.
One of the reason it is always paid by Thai people and very seldom understood by farangs.
But I have to say quite a few Thai girls take advantage of the confusion...

Smeg, I have been to 3 weddings in my wifes village.
2 were all Thai, the other was mine.

The other 2 weddings saw 100,000 baht covering the tables.
    Mine did not.

Don't consider the sinsot to be necessarily the farang being ripped off. both wife and family understood my reasons for not wanting to do it.
Stop getting all your info from Stickman and get out, meet some real people Smeg.

Where is the generalisation? I'm just stating what I've seen & been told, and what I'd do. No generalising involved.

It's a different culture and we look down on it. The Thais swear by it.
Luckily my Thai family side is educated sufficiently enough to not practise this bullshit.

I bet that was a fun conversation...

I was sat in a restaurant only last week when my best mate here told his gf that he wouldn't pay. She cried for an hour....then dumped him

I did not generalise. I merely stated what my friends told me and what I'd do if ever in that situation. At no point did I apply this to everyone.

I've got this fascinating idea for a thread called.
"My mates don't think their wives love them too much" insert any country you like.

I do not think you do.
When parents want to marry their girl, they would like to make sure the husband can take care of her (and them when they get older).
In the N/NE, most people are poor or very poor, so putting money on the table when you do not have any, or little, means you care about the wife and the wife's parents and won't give up easily on the marriage.
If the parents know you have money and will take care of their daughter, it does not matter, it is just keeping traditions alive, no money changes hands.
I mean no money goes to the parents, only to the daughter...
