Thai Bank Recommendations for a Home Mortgage?

My wife has gone to several banks to get a home loan. She has been self employed for 3 years, has a business bank account, personal and savings. She keeps an account book, gives people receipts, and has contracts for proof.

She averages makes a good bit of dough. Even pulls in more money than a Thai lawyer I know that works for Deloitte in Bangkok.

She seems to be getting the run around on financing.

One bank told her she had to show an income of 500,000 baht a month since she is self employed i this was Standard Charter

Others have told her that if she worked for a company, she could get a house loan if she only made 8,000 baht a month. Being self employed is a problem.

I am wondering if they do this to her because I have been with her at the bank? I feel a real arrogance with the bankers we have dealt with.

I am not bringing my money to finance a house for cash in Thailand. I use my money for investments in the states and take care of the biills here.

Anyone have a bank recommendation or a relative or Thai friend working at a bank that can get this done?

Bunch of wankers sometimes. Good luck with it though.

Someone told me that the Government Savings Bank are pretty good, but make sure they have no idea that a foreigner is 'involved'.

Another supposedly good bank is the Thanachart Bank.

Siam Commercial. No problem if she can show legit income/bank statements for the last 6/12 months.

There is a complication if you're legally married in which case you will be required to co-sign the mortgage. She cannot get one in her own name, (even though the property will be!) but SCB can usually 'work their way around' the issues (so you'll still end up 50% responsible for the motgage whether you like it or not).

Not a good time for asking about financial lending for residential property at the moment. Banks are sitting on their hands appararently because of the state of the economy according to a Thai friend who was declined recently.
