Thai Media: A Joke or Not?

What is you opinion of Thai television or radio?

Do you listen to Thai radio or Thai TV or news?

For me, every TV show is the same. If it is a talk show, they have a Thai movie star on their talking about her divorce. If it is a Thai game show or competition, they have the same Thai comedians on there time after time. The bald guy with messed up teeth for one comes to mind this morning. Of course if it is a Thai soap, there is the overdone pushing match in slow motion (normally between two ladies), followed by the Thai patented slap in the face.

Thai radio? The lady announcers sound ok sometimes. With the men, there is always some horrible echo that comes across the radio. The worst is when he keeps interrupting the Thai song with some gibberish.

Personally, I think the male announcers sound like they have a marshmallow stuck in their throat and spend 50% of the time saying "uhh, uhh, uhh" or "mmmm mmmmm". There is also the ever popular and boisterous "krahpom" ever few seconds.

    Your thoughts on my rant?

I dont have to watch Thai tv anymore thank god, we got the local cable with a few movie channels, Boomerang the kids channel and a few sports ones. The wife used to watch all the Thai series but doesnt bother with them now, she'll watch a movie rather than watch the Thai series with the silly sound effects that drive you potty after five minutes. If thats all there is to watch they'll watch it, given a choice they probably wouldnt.

There's a few good things. I remember one where a guy follows a poor person around on their daily routine, for example collecting rubbish or working at the market. News & sport isn't too bad.

Ahh yeah, seen that a few times then. Ironically on in between some Soap Opera's or other showcasing the real, everyday, life of Thai's in BKK.

The majority of it is crap but in amongst the crap there are a few good actors being held back by crap directors and crap scripts.
It's a bit like watching Bogart doing a part in Coronation Street

^similar to Australian soaps, although for the Thai stars there is little or no chance of an escape to Hollywood.

Aussie soap 'stars' usually find their way - much like a creeping, infectious, plauge - to the UK. For every one that subsequently cross-infects to the US there's a dozen others belting out crap pop tunes in London concerts.

Yes, but in general English stars who make it to hollywood generally never appear on TV first, whereas I notice nearly all of the Aussies go through a rite of passage in a soap. To do so for an English actor would be professional suicide.

What, you wanna see my Hyperbole & Artistic License License now do you??

Nah, I dunno. Did see that Kylie was awarded something or other at Buckingham palace the other day. The ever swarmy Peter Andre's still knocking around the traps too I think.

well, that's one, and I'm not sure that she made it because of her acting ability either.
