    People's Annoying Little Habits

I'm pretty normal in social terms. I don't fidget, grind my teeth or pick my nails and such. I just met an old friend who has picked up an annoying humming habit. Strange, my sister hummed for a bit after she had radiation therapy. I remember my stepfather always picking at a thumb callous, and other folks who do continuous tik-like habits.
My hummer friend professes to be a new-age spiritual guy now (oh, no, lost another one). "So, why do you hum and why do you answer the phone if you are meditating?" I asked. "Just happy," he said. That is so lame.
I just don't get these people. Are they just nervous or do they need real work to do?

I had a boss once that had a shakey head. (no he wasn't Indian)
It was hilarious in staff meetings. It would start almost imperceptibly -- and grow to a full-on wobble. Then he would catch himself and it would stop. For about 15 minutes.

I assume it was nerve damage of some sort (he was a pilot with 10,000+ hours) and probably not something I should laugh at ... but.

Agree, both of the above are annoying or make you feel embarrassed for them. But, maybe nervous habits or fear?

I suspect he had a well consealled Sony walkman ear microphone in place and was listening to loops of Queens Bohemian Rhapsody.

That's the sign of a true alcoholic. I have a friend who drinks white cask wine through all his waking hours and endlessly repeats himself, forgets what he's talking about mid conversation etc. He is comitting slow suicide but refuses to admit that he has a drinking problem. As Tom Waites said " I only have a drinking problem when I can't get a drink".

Had a co worker once who would always have some urgent issue to discuss. He would sit down and lay out the problem and then ask for my advice. About 5 words into my reply, he would fall dead asleep. The first time it happened I was more than a little pissed off. I later learned he had narcolepsy and would wait until he revived then continue. Pretty annoying though.

Another really annoying bunch are those people who have acute post nasal drip. Suppressing the urge to punch the git whilst listening to the constant nasal/throat noises are enough to try ones patience to the breaking point.

One more. This happens in Asia all the time. What is it with the spinning pen thing Asians business people do when you are talking to them?

^ Umm, well he is supposed to be a customer, but that will be decided after yet another Skype conversation tomorrow morning. I'm so tempted to tell him to piss off.
